If you haven't heard about her, I guess, you weren't following the Australian Open in 1997 (or 1999)very carefully (or you just had eyes for your favourite only :), because she was definitely "discovered" there by many of her recent fans. What did she achieve in Melbourne in 1997 (and repeated the same in 1999!) - find it out from Career Highlights, 1997 and 1999 results section!

Dear fans of Dominique! Due to some structural changes in the server where this site was located for almost 3 years now (www.bmf.ee/kylli/index1.html), I have to move to another location - at the moment I'm building it up here, but it will take quite some time... So, please be patient and understanding if something doesn't still work as it should - of course, you are welcome to inform me about any invalid links or whatever... This place won't probably be the final location for the site (as GeoCities doesn't offer too much space for loads of photos my site presents...) but I promise to keep you informed! Hope to see you around!

May 31st -

Happy Birthday, Dominique! You've already given yourself a best ever birthday present yesterday by becoming a mom (what a wonderful word, isn't it?! J), but we, all your fans, would like to wish you all the best on your birthday and all the days coming after!
May all your dreams come true and may you life be like you would like it to be!
All the best!

May 30th - It has been a while since last update as there didn't happen so much, but now...

I'm very happy to inform all of you that yesterday Dominique gave birth to her first child,
a daughter who was called Ines!
Ines was 3,5 kg and both mother and daughter (and hopefully dad as well
J) are fine.
Congratulations, Dominique and Bart! It's a truely wonderful moment in anyone's life!
All the best from all the fans to the parents and little Ines!

On November 15, a retirement ceremony was held in honour of Dominique in Madison Square Garden.
THANK YOU, DOMINIQUE FOR THOSE GREAT MOMENTS!!!

January 12th - Dominique was selected as one of fifteen nominees to the title of Sportsperson 2000 in Belgium - this is one of the titles she already has won. The other nominees are - Aimé Anthuenis, Brigitte Becue, Els Callens, Kim Clijsters, Jan Koller, Filip Meirhaeghe, Axel Merckx, Mohammed Mourhit, Johan Museeuw, Joël Smets, Andrei Tchmil, Gella Vandecaveye, Yves Vanderhaeghe and Gert Verheyen. The Sportsperson of 2000 will be announced this Sunday (Belgian TV1 will broadcast the whole show - so those, who are able to do that - keep your eyes open, your fingers crossed for Dominique and your VCRs ready... J

January 11th - New tennis season has started by now... and so is Dominique's "new life". Let's hope she is having great time in whatever she's doing now! But still, there are some more news about her career - in the end of the year, she and Els won the "40-15 Trophy" again - the trophy given to those who show the most significant and important performance of Belgian Tennis during current year - and the Bronze medal at Sydney Olympic Games was certainly The achievement of Belgian Tennis in 2000! Dominique has already won this trophy once before - for her achievements during the 1998 season. Congratulations!!!

December 15th - Some moments ago Dominique was voted 3rd in election of the Belgian Sportswomen of the Year 2000. The first in the rankings was Kim Clijsters and the second one judoka Gella Vandecaveye. Last year Dominique became the 5th and she won the title in one of the greatest years in her career - 1998.

December 12th - In December the 1st, Dominique was awarded the National Fair-Play Trophy in Belgian Sports 2000. This is the true acknowledgement of a great career of the very fantastic sportsperson who was always representing the values of the fair-play and was - and will always be a great role-model for all the young players! Congratulations, Dominique!!

Following is the summary of the prize-giving statute (Thanks for the translation, A v B!) - This Fair-Play prize is presented annually either for an extraordinary fair-play gesture during a sporting event or for ending a terrific sporting career. This year the jury chose the retirement of Dominique Van Roost-Monami. Athletically, she reached great heights as evidenced by her great results which she achieved not only through her enviable talent but also from her strong motivation and perseverance. To illustrate it, a few points from her career. She entered the spotlight at several Grand-Slam tournaments. Apart from that, she won tournaments all over the world. This resulted in a top-20 ranking since 1997 and even a top-10 ranking in 1998 in women's tennis. An unprecedented achievement with which she - together with Sabine Appelmans - put Belgian women's tennis on the map. Nationally she achieved unprecedented succes with 45 Fed Cup appearances and 10 Belgian national titles. Her inspiring efforts at the Fed Cup, national, and regional level was remarkable. Together with Els Callens she finished her great career by winning a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics. The jury was particularly impressed by the humbleness that typifies her in the hard and arduous world of tennis. The fact that she stayed in the Olympic village while accustomed to the luxury of big hotels is typical of her. Dominique, in name of  Belgian sports we wish to thank you for the way you used your talents, your example for the youth and what you did for Belgian sport in general and tennis in particular.

December 4th - Now it's really final, the retirement - Dominique had herself removed from both singles and doubles ranking starting from this week. So, the latest career rankings are from previous week - singles 24 and doubles 21. So now it's officially over - Dominique's brilliant career in international tennis circuit. An exciting "new" life has begun... All the best!

November the 23rd - Good news from Las Vegas, at least for all Dominique fans - Dominique ended her career in winning ways!!! Dominique & Els saved Belgium's honour in doubles after both singles matches were lost - Seles defeated Henin in two, and Davenport Clijsters in three close sets. In doubles, first set was won 6-3 and after taking the first game of the second set everything seemed to go very well for Belgian double, but then the US team Jennifer Capriati & Lisa Raymond woke up - they won 5 games in a row and had already two setpoints, so the second set seemed to be gone, but Dominique & Els had different thoughts. They dig deep and came back from 1-5 very strongly - and won the set 7-5! Very well done! Great job! Dominique, your fans are very proud of you! And happy that you showed to everyone that you still are in very Top of the game - leaving the scene by winning two very important matches - together with Els, beating the No 1 doubles team in the world and winning the last match of your career against such a tough team as US! Once again, very well done!

DOMINIQUE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LETTING US, YOUR FANS, TO BE PART OF SUCH A WONDERFUL CAREER!
ALL THE BEST IN THE FUTURE & GOOD LUCK IN YOUR "NEW LIFE"!

November the 23rd - Check also some photos from Fed Cup - Dominique's last official appearance on tennis court!

November the 22nd - Tonight Belgium will face U.S. in semifinal of Fed Cup. According to the preliminary schedule, the first match will be Justine Henin vs Monica Seles, second singles involve Kim Clijsters & Lindsay Davenport and finally, Dominique & Els will face Lindsay Davenport & Lisa Raymond in (hopefully) deciding doubles. Although Seles had a great run in Chase and Davenport won a title in Philadelphia just couple of weeks ago, Belgian team is really in a very good shape as well - Cijsters won a title in Leipzig and reached second round in Chase and of course, Dominique & Els did beat the top doubles team last week, so there really might be some chances for Belgian team. Unfortunately Dominique & Els were beaten in Chase semifinal by Manon Bollegraf & Nicole Arendt (5-7 3-6), but this great win in first round of Chase gave certainly quite some confidence for this week! Good luck for the team! It's the game of tennis where everything can happen - just believe in yourself and give your best! All the best, Dominique - enjoy your last official matches on the tour!

November the 15th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Dominique and Els made very impressive entrance to doubles Chase Championships by beating the No 1 team in the world in first round - it took three sets, but in the end Dominique and Els came out as winners against Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama, the final score was 2-6 6-3 6-4! Very well done, girls, very well done!!! What a great way to celebrate the greatest achievement in both girls doubles career - making it to the Chase - and their last season together has shown that "Team Dominique & Els" will never go to any tournament just to participate but to play great tennis and win!!! Now, in semifinals, Dominique & Els will face Nicole Arendt & Manon Bollegraf - good luck for the match!

November the 6th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! Now it's 100% sure that Dominique and Els have made it to the Chase in doubles! Very well done!  At the moment team "Dominique & Els" is ranked 7th in Race to Chase, but as many of the teams threatening their Chase spot is not playing this week and no teams can go by them now - either Hingis & Kournikova or Martinez & Tarabini can go up to 8th spot, but they can't go by... so - Dominique and Els are there, among 8 best teams of 2000! Congratulations! Let's hope for the good draw now!

November the 6th - Some news about Fed Cup as well - Dominique is named for Belgian Fed Cup team, the other players in a team are Els, Laurence Courtois, Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin. At the moment it's not decided yet, if Dominique will play both singles and doubles or just doubles, but she's in the team - and they have a tough task to face - in semis, Belgians will meet USA... At the moment, Monica Seles and Lindsay Davenport are committed to the team, but not Williams sisters... So, let's hope for the best - USA is definitely one of the very best teams, but in team-competitions no-one can be written off in advance... Go, Belgium, Go!

October the 20th - It's more than 24 hours from the news now, but I still don't know what to say... It's difficult to define my reactions to all this - normally, everyone around you expects you to be reasonable adult, but somehow this news moves you so much anyway and cause quite some shaky and mixed feelings...

After all, since AO 1997 it has been almost 4 years now when Dominique's "doings & goings" have had quite an impact to my lifestyle, to my emotions, I've learned to know so many nice people all around the world, I've travelled to places I didn't even dare to dream about... And all this thanks to the "chance" that I happened to switch on Eurosport during a certain match at AO 97... so it really feels kind of empty now. Especially the fact that only two days before those news I received the tape with her Filderstadt' matches and I saw the "bonus" footage of Dominique & Els and the bronze... seeing Dominique so extremely happy and proud, it was maybe the most emotional and inspiring moment, the "crown" to all the positive emotions I've got in my fan-career... and then, two days later... it's not easy to get used to this new situation.

Of course, 100%, I respect and support her decision of leaving while still in the Top after having achieved realistically all what she could ever dream about - winning some titles, beating the very top players, reaching the Top 10 in rankings and to sum up the incredible career - Olympic medal! I'm sure this is something which won't be easy to repeat for anyone in the nearer future... But I just hoped for one more season... But as we, the fans, have always been happy knowing that she is - winning the matches, reaching her goals - so knowing that she is happy now, so should be we. And we are!

Tennis will never be the same again without you, Dominique...
Your fans will deeply miss you! And we are very thankful for those great moments you gave us...
Thanks, and good luck in future!
And of course - we all hope to see you in Fed Cup and Chase!

In case any of you, visiting the site, would like to send any good luck messages to Dominique, you can either
Sign the Guestbook or send me an e-mail and all the messages will be forwarded to her.

October the 19th - Now it's confirmed... Dominique will show her talent, fantastic fighting spirit and great tennis for the last time in official tennis match in Fed Cup matches in November 21-25. Sadly though, she has announced that she has already withdrawn from WTA Tour events in Moscow and Leipzig. But first, in case she and Els will make it, she will play doubles Chase as well - at the moment they are 5th in Race to Chase, but there are quite some team very close...  It will be a chance to us, the fans, to show her our appreciation for those great years of fantastic moments she has given to us and wish her good luck for the future... So be there - either on courtside, in front of TV-sets or at least in your hearts... Good luck, Dominique, this is not the final goodbye, although the decision has been made - there is still plenty of tennis to enjoy!

Some comments from Dominique's pressconference:

"I felt at the start of this year that I had achieved all the goals I had set for myself in tennis, and the only one remaining was to win a medal at the Olympic Games. I knew this was my final goal and I feel very fulfilled with my career.''

"I feel very fulfilled with my career. It has turned out much better than I expected. I realized that every year it was getting tougher physically for me on the Tour and I wanted to leave while I was still at my best."'

"The Olympic Games was my biggest achievement in tennis, ahead of getting into the top 10. As an athlete, it's the highest level you can reach and I am very proud of winning a bronze medal for my country."'
While Dominique said the death of her mother of cancer in March did not affect her decision, she said she would spend more time with her father. "I made up my mind before my mother died,'' she said. "That was a very difficult time for me, but I am glad I played on through it.''

October the 19th - According to Belgian Teletext (TV1) that refers to two newspapers (in French), Dominique has announced her retirement in the end of the year. LLL An additional note says that she will make an announcement later today, so hopefully it will give us much more detailed info about what is about to happen and what are reasons behind that - until that all this is still "speculation"... Of course, it would probably be one of the saddest moment in all fan-careers as all of us will deeply miss her...  but on the other hand - if it is what she has decided, this is probably the best moment to do that - as it's said: it's always best to make this decision being still on top of your career - and what else could we call the Olympic medal... I guess I'm a bit confused at the moment as this news came so suddenly... so I'll comment the news a bit more thoroughly when I've got some more information...

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
They made it!!!
