![]() | October the 10th - Well, Zürich didn't prove to be a very happy city for Dominique in 2000 - unfortunately the tournament is over for her after the first day of competition - both singles and doubles matches went wrong way in three close sets. At first, in singles, Dominique fought hard in first set to win it in tie-break 7-5, then Maleeva took advantage of what probably was a short lack of concentration after winning a set or just a significant rise of Maleeva's game and took the second one 2-6. It already looked to be over when Maleeva took the 3-1 lead in decisive one, but Dominique managed to break back when Maleeva went to serve out the match at 4-5, she even took a lead by holding her serve to 6-5, and had a matchpoint on Maleeva's serve, but she couldn't take it... and in another tie-break there was not enough steam and energy left - 4-7 and the singles tournament was over... Sadly though, some points can be very decisive sometimes - you get either 1 or 50 points from the tournament, this time it was supposed to be only 1. Later in the afternoon, in doubles, everything started very well - Dominique and Els took the first set from the 4th seeds Chanda Rubin & Barbara Schett 6-3, but the seeds took the lead in second - they won the set 6-1 and were leading 5-3 and serving for the match... Dominique & Els managed to break them and hold their serve to get the score back to 4-5, but they couldn't save the match - serving out for the second time was not as big problem for the 4th seeds and another match was lost in three sets... Sad news for all Dominique fans, of course, but after such a tough and busy schedule for last couple of months it is not easy for anyone... hopefully now she can have some rest, spend some days at home and take some time off to enjoy what was achieved in Olympics - there hasn't been time for this yet... And then - after a week - next stop, Moscow - last year it was a good tournament for Dominique, let's hope it will be like that this time around as well! Good luck, Dominique! |
![]() | October the 10th - So, after couple of minutes from now, at 10 am CET,
Dominique will step onto Centre Court of Swisscom Challenge tournament to play her first
round match against Magdalena Maleeva and later on, together with Els she will play the
first round in doubles as well - against 4th seeds Rubin & Schett! You can follow the
match from "Live"
scoreboard as well... |
![]() | October the 9th - This week Dominique will play in Zürich - in singles she was unfortunately the first one who missed the seeding, but hopefully it will not prove to be crucial. In first round she will meet Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria and this match will be played tomorrow. In doubles, Dominique and Els are in action as well and already the first match is quite a tough one - 4th seeds Chanda Rubin & Barbara Schett. Good luck for the tournament!! |
![]() | October the 9th - It's great to announce about Dominique's another career-high ranking in doubles - in this week's ranking Dominique is ranked 21! Well done, Dominique! Go on like that, and the Chase will be there for you and Els! |
![]() | October the 6th - World No 1 didn't give much of the chance to Dominique this afternoon - Hingis won 6-2 6-1. By the way, now these two players have meet eachother 6 times - but only 3 tournaments - Sydney, San Diego and Filderstadt - twice each... Quite a coincidence, don't you think? Apart the fact that Dominique had to face the No 1, it wasn't the most even fight anyway - Dominique had just had 9 though matches during the Olympics while Hingis was just resting (or practising which also means hard work, of course) and at first place it was admirable that Dominique still decided to play in Filderstadt after having left Sydney only on Saturday - it means she should have had quite a jetlag to cope with at least during the first matches... That all means that those 73 points Dominique earned this week as a result of reaching another quarterfinal, can be taken as a very good start for the Autumn season in Europe! Next week - Zürich. Good luck! |
![]() | October the 5th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! There will be a re-match of the historical Dominique vs Martina Hingis in QF of Filderstadt '98 after all! After a quite slow start and falling behind 0-3 in first set, Dominique came back strongly and defeated Sweden's Asa Carlsson in two sets 6-3 6-1 - to reach another quarterfinal match-up against Martina Hingis and as it proved to be very significant for tennis history two years ago, it certainly draws quite some attention this time as well... Good luck, Dominique - who knows, maybe it's your turn to change things again... J |
![]() | October the 4th - YESSSSSSS!!! Another good news about this win over Anne Kremer is that by winning that match, Dominique has already collected 41 points - and that means, that now Dominique has crossed the 1000-points line for year 2000 - together with this win she has earned totally 1024 points in singles and this gives quite some confidence about the final 2000 ranking. But let's see and hope for the best - there is still a long way to go in season 2000! |
![]() | October the 4th - YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! Dominique came through a tough fight and defeated Anne Kremer in two sets 7-5 7-6 (7-4)! Very well done, Dominique!!! Now, in second round, there will be another meeting with Asa Carlsson of Sweden - although this time either Dominique or Asa have their doubles partners there on court to support them... J They have already met once this year - during Hopman Cup where Dominique won in two sets - hopefully it goes like that this time as well! Good luck, Dominique! |
![]() | October the 4th - Team Jeyaseelan & Carlsson proved to be too tough for Dominique and Els in first round doubles which was played yesterday - the final score was 3-6 4-6. Earlier this year there were two three-set matches against this team and Dominique won both of the meetings (once with Els and once with Jennifer Capriati), but now it went the other way. Better luck next time.. Later today, as a second match on Court 3, Dominique will play her first round singles match against Anne Kremer of Luxembourg. Her singles form in Olympics was also quite impressive, so hopefully she can carry on the winning form and have a great start to an Autumn indoor season in Europe. Good luck, Dominique and all the best for this match! |
![]() | October the 2nd - Medal from Olympics has been earned and now it's time to come back to reality... on the road again - tournaments, seedings, rankingpoints etc etc... JJJ Dominique will play in Tier II tournament in Filderstadt this week and she is 8th seed in singles. In first round she will meet Anne Kremer against whom she has already had quite some battles this year - for example in semifinal of Eastbourne, where Dominique won in three tough sets. In doubles, Bronze winning team is in action again - Dominique and Els will play their first round match against also known team - Sonya Jeyaseelan & Asa Carlsson (they will meet this team already for the third time in 2000!) Those matches will be played either tomorrow or on Wednesday. Good luck, Dominique - hopefully this medal has given you all the confidence you need! All the best in both singles and doubles - Chase is waiting, you know...JJJ |
![]() | September the 27th - After such a great achievement in Olympics doubles tournament - getting a Bronze medal by beating Belorussian team Olga Barabanshikova & Natasha Zvereva in very difficult and close match in three sets 4-6 6-4 6-1 (YESSSSSSS!!! J), it's also great to announce that this week Dominique has reached her new career-high doubles ranking - 22nd!!! |
![]() | September the 26th - After 3-hours rain delay, Dominique & Els stepped onto Court 1, prepared to give the Williams sisters the best fight they could and in the beginning they actually managed to surprise Americans - they took the early lead 3-1 in first set. But after that Williams' got their game going and they finished the match, lasting a bit over an hour, in two sets 6-4 6-1. Now Dominique and Els will have to fight for the bronze medals against Olga Barabanshikova & Natasha Zvereva of Belorussia who were beaten in semis by Holland's Kristie Boogert & Miriam Oremans in straight sets 6-3 6-2. THE match will be played tonight - no exact timing has been announced yet, but now, all the fans of Dominique & Els - this is our turn to give them all the support we can - this is probably the most important match they have played or will ever play in doubles!!! Let's just stay up (as for European fans it means the middle of the night) and direct all our energy towards our favourites to help them!!! Come on, Dominique & Els - you have showed to yourself, your fans and all the tennisworld that you are worth this medal, that you are able to reach the dream - and you can do it!!! Just believe in yourself and play the best tennis you can!!! Best of luck for this match, all your fans will be behind you as they have always been!!! All the best!!! |
![]() | September the 25th - Lots of things have happened and lots of tennis has been played
during the weekend - Dominique has played totally three matches and the greatest news is
that she's still in the tournament and fighting for the medal!!! Let's take the results
now in the order they came - on Saturday, Dominique and Els played their second round
doubles match against Karina Habsudova & Janette Husarova and won in quite convincing
way - 6-3 6-2. It opened the door to another quarterfinal as Dominique had already reached
the QF in singles. Unfortunately the draw wasn't the best one in singles as Dominique had
to meet Monica Seles whom she had not beaten before... and it wasn't going to be this time
either - on Sunday night Seles was just too good for Dominique and although the score 0-6
2-6 indicated very one-sided match, it wasn't really so, at least not in second set. Match
lasted around an hour and there were quite some close games, but finally, Monica came out
as a winner... Anyway, reaching last 8 in both disciplines - singles and doubles (btw,
Venus Williams was the other one to do so...) and losing only to higher seed is not really
a bad result - only if ... there had been a better draw... But as Dominique said before
Olympics - her aim in singles was at least a QF and this is what she achieved - well done,
Dominique!! |
![]() | September the 22th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Friday has been very successful for Dominique - at first, she reached the quarterfinal of singles tournament by beating Italian Silvia Farina Elia in straight sets 6-1 7-5 and later in the evening, together with Els, they defeated Croatians Iva Majoli & Silvija Talaja in three sets 6-2 5-7 6-2 and reached second round. In singles match, first set was very convincing 6-1 to Dominique and she was also leading 3-1 in second when Farina took next 4 games to lead 5-3. Dominique didn't give up, but game back strongly and won the set 7-5! Very well done, Dominique! Her comments about the match were following: "My nervousness was especially due to tiredness and the fact that I wanted absolutely to win this match. For me, I think, it was the most significant match of the tournament. I do not say that I am satisfied with a quarterfinal but it is all the same about a superb performance. Now, it will undoubtedly be Monica Seles. I have never beaten her and for that it would be needed a miracle. But if I play as in time of the first set against Farina, you never know..." Quarterfinal against Seles will be played on Saturday - as Dominique said, she would need a miracle to win it, but it's Olympics and it might change the usual situation... you never know... for example, the fact that there were only 7 unforced errors in both sets against Farina, is also a good sign... Anyway, the best of luck, Dominique - if you give your best everything can happen - and if it's not enough to win, you've still given your best!In doubles the first set went to Belgians 6-2, but in second set, at 5-6 and 30-40 on "our" serve, Croatians took their chance and closed out the set 7-5 to their advantage. In third set Dominique and Els took that match into their hands by breaking their opponents twice to lead 3-0. After that there was a small drawback - after long fight and several deuces Croatians managed to get one of the breaks back, but that was it - Dominique and Els won 3 of the next 4 games and made sure that there won't be any false hopes for Croatians - third set was won 6-2 and girls went on to second round where they will meet Karina Habsudova & Janette Husarova from Slovakia. Match will probably be played already tonight - so, good luck girls, you can do it!! |
![]() | September the 21th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Dominique has reached third round of Olympic singles tournament by beating Anastasia Myskina of Russia in straight sets 6-2 6-3! Now in next round, she will meet Italian Silvia Farina Elia who beat Silvija Talaja in three tight sets. After the match it was asked from Dominique whom she would have liked to play against in third round, she commented: "I prefer to play against Farina who is less powerful than Talaja. Against her, I will have time establish my play and to impose my rhythm". Schedule for September 22 hasn't been announced yet, but there might be a case that Dominique plays both singles and doubles on Friday. Good luck for those matches! |
![]() | September the 20th - Dominique will play her singles second round match tonight - match against young Russian Anastasia Myskina will be played on already known court for Dominique - Court 3 and as a first match (11 am local time - 2 am CET.). Good luck, Dominique - all the fans are keeping their fingers crossed for you! All the best! |
![]() | September the 19th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Dominique had a great and
convincing start in Olympics singles - she defeated No 68 ranked Adriana Gersi in two very
convincing sets 6-1 6-1! The match didn't start in a best way - Dominique lost her opening
service games, but starting from the third game she found her game and from this moment on
her opponent didn't have much of the chance at all - Dominique broke all her service games
and won the first set very convincing in only 28 minutes. Start of the second set was
identical to the first one - Dominique lost her first service game, but after that Gersi
had no chance... Very well done, Dominique! |
![]() | September the 15th - Olympic Games have just started - or to be more exact, opening ceremony is just going on at the moment... If you were following it, you probably saw both Dominique and Bart walking into the stadium as a members of Belgian team - also, Els and Sabine could be seen as well... (Also, check some photos). Draws for both singles and doubles have been announced - and at the first look everything seems to be possible - in singles Dominique is 8th seed and she will meet Adriana Gersi in first round. In doubles, Dominique and Els are 5th seeds and their first round opponents are Croatians Iva Majoli and Silvija Talaja. For complete draws and timetable, check the ITFs official Olympic Tennis site, Olympic tournament starts on Tuesday (singles) and Thursday (doubles). Good luck! Everything is possible and one day it should become "your" day - why not this time! All the best! |
![]() | September the 11th - After such a fantastic run at US Open doubles Dominique can celebrate her career high ranking in doubles this week - she's 25th! Her previous career high was just a spot below that - 26 - which she achieved in February 8, in 1999. Congratulations, Dominique!! And good luck in Olympics!! |
![]() | September the 7th - Number 2 seeds were too good for Dominique and Els today and the great great run in US Open doubles has ended by now - the final score was 5-7 1-6. But despite that girls have shown to all their fans and whole tennisworld that they are the power and threat in doubles everybody should be aware and afraid of - and this is a good message to show before Olympics for sure! Congratulations, Dominique and Els - you have been great throughout whole tournament and losing to No 2 seeds and really good doubles players is never nothing to be ashamed of! Take some time enjoy what you achieved and take all this confidence you got with you to Sydney - all the best for the Olypics! Just some more luck and you have everything you need to fulfill your Olympic dreams! Go for it! |
![]() | September the 6th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH S's TO EXPRESS ALL THIS EXCITEMENT AND HAPPINESS AT THE MOMENT - DOMINIQUE AND ELS ARE IN SEMIFINALS OF THE US OPEN DOUBLES TOURNAMENT!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT, WHAT A RESULT, WHAT A MATCH, WHAT A DAY!!! VERY WELL DONE, DOMINIQUE AND ELS!!! ALL YOUR FANS ARE VERY VERY PROUD OF YOU THIS EVENING - AND YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF - YOU DID A GREAT GREAT JOB!! CONGRATULATIONS - AND GOOD LUCK IN NEXT ROUND!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!! JJJ 296 POINTS EARNED SO FAR IS BY FAR THE BEST RESULT - BUT STILL, THERE IS SOME WAY TO GO - AND NOW EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!! JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND GIVE YOUR BEST - GOOD LUCK IN SEMIS!!!! |
![]() | September the 6th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! After such a long waiting for this doubles 3rd round match, Dominique and Els still made it!! They reached the quarterfinal of US Open doubles by beating 6th seeds Nathalie Tauziat and Alexandra Fusai from France in exciting three-set match that lasted more that 2 hours! After losing a first set 4-6 (trying to come back after trailing 1-4, but not quite...) Dominique and Els came back strong and won two next ones 6-2 7-5!!! Maybe the most impressive fact about the match was that Dominique was the best server of the four - her serve was only broken once - in her very first service game, but after that everything seemed to work great! Even when she had to serve to stay in the match at 5-6 in third, she held very impressively! In next game Dominique and Els broke Fusai on 3rd breakpoint and Els served out the match. Very well done, girls! 172 additional points earned so far are great contribution for the Chase and not to mention all this growing confidence for the Olympics! But first the second quarterfinal of Grand Slam doubles in 2000 - on second match on Armstrong Court later today Dominique and Els will face 9th seeds Conchita Martinez and Patricia Tarabini for the place in semifinal. Good luck, Dominique & Els - it might be your chance!!! |
![]() | September the 5th - As there were two major rain delays in Flushing Meadows yesterday evening Dominique and Els never got a chance to play their 3rd round doubles match against 6th seeds Nathalie Tauziat and Alexandra Fusai, so the match was rescheduled. So, if the weather won't let us down once again, Dominique and Els will play their match as a 4th match on Court 11 later this evening. Hopefully those two days of rest gave the team some more time to prepare for this important match and everything goes as planned - to show their best tennis against higher seeds - if it's enough, great! if not, well - they have still given their best. Good luck, Dominique and Els! |
![]() | September the 5th - As Olympics are only less than two weeks away it would be good to have an overview of those who will participate - and the most of all - which ranking does Dominique have among them in both singles and doubles, of course, together with Els Callens. As it is such a rare event, also some information about singles and doubles seeds and draw will be posted here as soon as they will be announced. |
![]() | September the 2nd - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Dominique and Els won their second round doubles match in three long sets 6-4 3-6 6-2!!! The first two sets there was a real struggle, but girls hang on and won the third one already convincingly - their 3 last service games were held to "love" - and it's a good sign for the next round - 6th seeds Nathalie Tauziat and Alexandra Fusai. Good luck, girls, you can do it!!! |
![]() | September the 1st - Some more details about Dominique's sudden retirement from
yesterday's match were published on Belgian teletext: "Heat and humidity finish Van Roost. Dominique Van Roost was eliminated in
the second round. She had to retire. |
![]() | August the 31th - LLL... Sad news... Dominique had to retire against Lilia Osterloh in second round after getting back to one set all... In first set Dominique broke in fourth game to lead 3-1 and she had 3 set points, one at 5-3 and two at 5-4, but the set went to tie-break where she had two more, but finally, Osterloh won the set in tie-break 9-7. In second set Dominique was directly 0-2 down, but she came back strong and broke herself in 7th game to lead 4-3. Then both girls held their serves in two next games. In tenth, monumental game Dominique tried to hang on and finally managed to use her 4th set point to win the set and to reach 1-set all. But... then something strange happened - as seen via NetCam, Dominique said something to the umpire, then a lady in red appeared and talked to Osterloh, while Dominique couldn't be seen anywhere... and then three tragic letters appeared - ret... LLL The only information about the retirement came from Yahoo website where it was said that: "The women's draw lost another seeded player when No. 14 Dominique Van Roost of Belgium was forced to retire after the second set of her match with American Lilia Osterloh due to a heat-related illness. She retired after being examined by a tournament physician." Anyway, let's hope that it was not anything too serious to threaten Dominique's Olympic hopes... Get well soon, Dominique! We hope to hear from you soon again! All the best... |
![]() | August the 31th - YESSSSS! Dominique and Els reached the second round of US Open doubles tournament by beating Bulgarian/Belorussian team Svetlana Krivencheva & Nadejda Ostraovskaya in two quite different sets - first one was an easy one - 6-1, but in second one tie-break was needed - Dominique and Els won it convincingly 7-1. Well done, girls!!! In next round they will play against either Magdalena Maleeva & Henrieta Nagyova or Sonya Jeyaseelan & Asa Carlsson. By the way, together with Jennifer Capriati Dominique defeated the Jeyaseelan & Carlsson team couple of weeks ago in Montreal 7-5 0-6 6-1, but hopefully it will be easier this time - it's still her "permanent" doubles partner Els she's playing together with now... JJJ But first, later tonight, as second match on Grandstand court, Dominique will face Lilia Osterloh of United States in singles - to fight for the right to play in 3rd round. Let's hope for the best - Dominique herself has commented that it's not impossible task she's facing tonight, but still... Good luck, Dominique - you can do it!!! All the best!!! |
![]() | August the 30th - YESSSSSSSSSSSS! Dominique has come through her tricky (as it can always be tricky against qualifier) first round match against the Angelika Bachmann in two sets 6-3 6-3! Match was quite close one, although there was never a real threat to Dominique's serve after Bachmann broke her in the very first service game in the match. Dominique broke right back and broke again in fourth game to lead 3-1 - after that both girls held their serves quite convincingly and Dominique served the first set out - 6-3. In the first two games of the second set both Dominique and her opponent held their serves to 15, but in third game after a deuce, Dominique broke to lead 2-1. Dominique held again and in next Bachmann service game there were two more deuces, but she managed to hold - 3-2 to Dominique. 6th game - Dominique held to "love" and next two games went to servers as well, until Bachmann started to serve at 3-5 - Dominique broke her after three deuces and one gamepoint to the opponent - she took her chance on 4th match point and finished the match off 6-3 6-3!!! Well done, Dominique!!! In next round she will meet Lilia Osterloh who came through in three set match against Christina Torrens-Valero and the match will probably be played tomorrow. Today, in second match on Court 18, Dominique and Els make their doubles debut in Flushing Meadows. Good luck, girls! |
![]() | August the 28th - The mysterious "Q" has got the name by now - Dominique will meet in first round a German girl Angelika Bachmann, ranked 156 at the moment (last week's rankings). The match will be played tomorrow - check the exact timing from the official site. Also, doubles draws have been announced as well and Dominique & Els are 12th seeds there! Great! In first round they will meet Svetlana Krivencheva of Bulgaria & Nadejda Ostrovskaya of Belorussia. Good luck, the draw is promising...J, but let's take it round by round! All the best! |
![]() | August the 28th - US Open starts today, but before that, there are some older news which haven't been mentioned here yet - tournament in New Haven meant reaching another quarterfinal for Dominique, but Monica Seles was too strong on the day - surprisingly, the score was the same as 4 years ago - 6-1 6-2 for Seles. In doubles, Dominique and Els couldn't do so much against top seeds Stubbs & Raymond - the result was 2-6 3-6. It meant that Dominique and Els could start their trip to New York already on Friday - to start the preparations for another big tournament - US Open. The best of luck there!!! |
![]() | August the 23th - US Open draw has been announced and for once in year 2000 it's very reasonable and a pretty good one for Dominique - a qualifier in first round... Of course, you never know those qualifiers, but at least it's no Davenport or Capriati this time... JJJ You can find the complete draw on US Open official site. Good luck, Dominique - this draw gives you quite some chances to go as far as you can imagine - just with some luck, confidence and great tennis - all the means you have!!! All the best - we, fans, believe in you - and with a reason... you are a great player!!! |
![]() | August the 23th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Dominique reached the quarterfinal in New Haven by beating Silvija Talaja from Croatia in second round - 6-3 7-5! Now it will be a chance to play against Monica Seles again - last time (and so far the only one) was in Sydney in 1996 where Monica won in quite convincing way 6-1 6-2. But as we all know, comparing with 1996, Dominique is a totally different player now - and different player in many senses - she is much better player and ... she has a different name!?! JJJ Yes, it seems to have been the last official match Dominique played under name Monami as results from Australian Open '96 were published already under name Van Roost. So let's hope for the best - anything could be possible... Still, it might be a problem that Dominique has to play her third match in three days, but hopefully this won't be a deciding factor. Match will be played later today (1 pm local time) and after some rest Dominique and Els will play their first round doubles against top seeds Lisa Raymond & Rennae Stubbs. Good luck for all the matches today - both of them will be very difficult, but there is a chance... and one if those days should be Your Day... maybe it's today... Best of luck! |
![]() | August the 22th - YESSSSSSSSSS!!! Dominique defeated Magdalena Maleeva in two tough sets 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 and reached 2nd round of the Pilot Pen tournament in New Haven! Very well done, Dominique! Especially impressive was the tie-break score as tie-breaks haven't been the most lucky ones for Dominique this year... Later tonight in next round she will meet Silvija Talaja whom she hasn't played against before... yet. Good luck, Dominique, you can do it!!! |
![]() | August the 22th - Seedings for US Open have been announced - Dominique is 14th seed in singles. Draws should be announced tomorrow, on Wednesday at 10:30 am E.D.T. Let's hope for the better luck than for French Open or Wimbledon... J |
![]() | August the 21th - Some new features were added to the page - overview of Dominique's current ranking in both singles and doubles, featuring the tournament-by-tournament listing of the those events which are calculated into current rankings - total points earned, tournament's Tier, round reached, points divided to round and quality points, also doubles partner of particular tournament. All the thanks go to "Chief of Information", as usually! JJJ |
![]() | August the 21th - Dominique is 6th seed at Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven. Despite being seeded, the first round opponent drawn against there is not the easiest one - "wild card" Magdalena Maleeva who had a good tournament last week in Montreal. But still, everything should be possible, so let's hope for the best! The match will be played later today. In doubles, Dominique and Els didn't get any better draw either - unfortunately they were the first ones without the seeding - and the consequence of it was the first round draw against top seeds Lisa Raymond & Rennae Stubbs... Well, at first sight it doesn't look very good, but still, Dominique & Els have played against them already twice this year and second time at Wimbledon it was already quite promising - they lost in two sets 3-6 6-7 (4-7), but still, they didn't give up easily... So, let's hope for the best... again - and good luck, girls!!! |
![]() | August the 18th - Du Maurier Open is over for Dominique for this year - teaming up with Jennifer Capriati they fighted hard against third seeds Sandrine Testud and Chanda Rubin, but after losing a tight first set in a tie-breaker 6-8, there was not much left in them for the second... where the result was 0-6... Anyway, they fighted hard and losing against one of the top seeds is nothing to be ashamed of.... Next week it will be New Haven where Dominique will play her regular doubles partner Els again - to have some more match practice before US Open and Olympics and improve their chances in those tournaments... All the best! |
![]() | August the 17th - Dominique & Jennifer Capriati made it to the second round of Montreal doubles after beating Asa Carlsson & Sonya Jeyaseelan in strange looking (score-wise) match 7-5 0-6 6-1. In second round they will meet third seeds Sandrine Testud & Chanda Rubin later today and hopefully their co-operation will work even better for this match! Good luck! |
![]() | August the 16th - Sad news from Montreal - after having such a great result in doubles last week in Los Angeles (which also meant playing there in Sunday and flying over to Montreal only after that...) in the first round of Du Maurier Dominique was upset by Hrdlickova in straight sets 4-6 3-6. In the first set there was only one break at 4-5 and despite having lead 3-1 in second set, Hrdlickova game back and won next 5 games in a row... Hopefully it goes better again next week in New Haven! Well, but Montreal is not over yet - Dominique and Jennifer Capriati is teaming up together and will play their first round match later today. Good luck! |
![]() | August the 14th - Dominique is 12th seed in Du Maurier Open in Montreal this week and in first round she will meet Kvetoslava Hr dlickova. Possible second round opponent will be either a qualifyer Samantha Reeves or a wild-card Jana Nejedly and in case those matches will be successful for Dominique, in Round of 16 she might meet Martina Hingis again... As Els is playing in $ 50 000 Challenger in Bronx, Dominique is teaming up with Jennifer Capriati in doubles and their first round opponents are Asa Carlsson and Sonya Jeyaseelan. Good luck, Dominique! |
![]() | August the 14th - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!S!!! Dominique and Els took the doubles title at estyle.com Classic by beating Nicole Arendt & Manon Bollegraf in semis 7-6 (7-0) 6-0 and Kimberly Po & Anne-Gaelle Sidot in final 6-2 7-5!!! Very well done, girls!!! It's really great to see that "Dominique-Els Team" is getting better and better (by the way, their win-lose record is 15-7 this year!) and the title after long long time (Dominique won her latest title in 1998 - doubles in Madrid) assures that there might really be a chance for them in Olympics! And of course, those 241 points they earned with the title gave the extra boost to their doubles' Chase hopes! Congratulations, Dominique & Els, for the title! What a great birthday present it was for Els who will be 30 on Sunday, August 20! It seems that both Dominique and Els have found this little secret of how to make themselves the best birthday themselves!!! JJJGreat win! You really deserved this! And of course, good luck in next tournament - hopefully this title will give you a lot of confidence - to win your next matches in both singles and doubles! All the best! |
![]() | August the 11th - The freshest news from Los Angeles where Dominique is playing this week is that together with Els Callens they defeated No 3 seeds Martina Hingis (!!) & Nathalie Tauziat in doubles quarterfinal - and what a convincing win it was - straight sets 6-3 7-5!! Very well done, girls!!! Now, in semifinal, they will meet either top seeds Lisa Raymond / Rennae Stubbs or another already well-known team for Dominique and Els - Manon Bollegraf & Nicole Arendt. It is already a third semifinal in doubles for Dominique & Els in year 2000 (in addition to the QF in Australian Open and 3rd round in Wimbledon), so they are really doing very well together - hopefully it continues like that as well. Good luck girls, final is waiting for you!! J |
![]() | August the 11th - Singles tournament in Los Angeles included some very
mixed feelings for Dominique and her fans - in first round she defeated Russian qualifyer
Tatjana Panova in very convincing way 6-1 6-2 and in second round she had to meet her old
rival Sandrine Testud from France who was 8th seed in the tournament. The final score was
2-6 6-3 5-7 from Dominique's point of view and at first sight it looked to be another very
tight and close match and good fight from Dominique, but... well, not good enough or not
being her day... but after seeing following comment from the WTA Message Board (Thanks,
Zummi, for posting this!), I felt a bit disappointed and maybe cheated in some ways... and
I'm pretty sure that this is how Dominique and the rest of her fans felt as well... Hopefully Dominique gets over it quickly and becomes even stronger after that (well, if you read the second comment from August 11, you've already seen that defeating Hingis (even if it's in doubles, it's still Hingis!) after that match is a good sign of recovery...) - it's really sad to see that in such a tight and important match some overrules from the chair may decide the final outcome of the match in such a nasty way. Hopefully she will have better luck next time... Anyway, good luck in doubles and all the best for Toronto - next stop of "American" hardcourt season! |
![]() | August the 3rd - Dominique and Caroline Vis lost a very tight and close first round doubles match against 4th seeds Cara Black & Elena Likhovtseva 4-6 6-7 (4-7), but hopefully the match gave Dominique some matchpractice before the next U.S. tournaments where she will play together with Els again - Los Angeles, New Haven and U.S. Open of course - quite a preparation for Olympics! Dominique's next tournament will be next week in Los Angeles - good luck in both singles and doubles - as both of them are on top of the priority lists now... J |
![]() | August the 2nd - Dominique showed a good fighting spirit against Martina Hingis, but on the day it wasn't enough - Hingis won in two sets 6-2 7-6 (7-2). Even Hingis herself said some good words about Dominique after the match - "She passed me very well, so I said I had to do something different. I think my serve was consistent. Overall, it was a good win to have -- first match, not an easy opponent." So, later this evening Dominique will play her first round doubles and next tournament (next singles matches) will be L.A. Good luck! |
![]() | August the 1st - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Dominique is safely through her first round match in San Diego - she defeated Japan's Ai Sugiyama in straight sets 6-2 7-6 (7-4)!!! And already later today, she will meet current No 1 Martina Hingis in second round - (3rd match on Stadium Court, matches start at 10:00) - as Hingis is playing her first match after Wimbledon, Dominique might even have a very good chance... and if not, she has already taken the maximum out of this tournament... Anyway, good luck Dominique! This might be your chance! |
![]() | August the 1st - Dominique is also playing doubles in San Diego - teaming up with Caroline Vis. In first round their opponents will be Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva! Best of luck! It doesn't help so much for improving the doubles Chace ambitions, but the doubles ranking can be improved as well... and any improvement is welcome, of course! J |
![]() | July the 31th - The draw of San Diego tournament has been announced - Dominique's first round opponent will be Ai Sugiyama - and in case she manages to go past her, it will be the 1st seed Martina Hingis. The draw is almost a copy of last year's one where Dominique defeated Sugiyama in second round and played against Hingis in QF, only this time there wasn't such an easy opening as Drake in first round, so the first match is already a very tough one... Good luck Dominique, you can do it! |
![]() | July the 28th - Next week Dominique will start the hard-court season in America - her first tournament there will be Acura Classic in San Diego. Then the schedule is very tight - e-style.com Classic in Los Angeles, Canadian Open in Montreal, Pilot Pen in New Haven and of course, U.S. Open and after that it's time for Olympic Games in Sydney. As all those tournaments will be played on Dominique's favourite surface, hardcourt, everything might be possible... Good luck, Dominique! |
