How Dr. King servedDr. King knew the value of service and the glory, love, and experience that you receive with it. He knew that the best thing to do was to serve people, and that is what he did. He served humanity with a passion for what he believed was right; that all are equal, and that all should be free. He served by helping others to realize this, by allowing people to express their knowledge of and love for this truth, and by helping to make it real in the world he lived in. In an excerpt from the book A Knock at Midnight, we find Martin Luther King Jr. saying "Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others. And this is the way I've decided to go the rest of my life. That's what I'm concerned about...I hope I can live so well that the preacher can get up and say "He was faithful." That's all, that's enough. That's the sermon I'd like to hear: "Well done, my good and faithful servant. You've been faithful; you've been concerned about others."...I want to be a servant. I want to be a witness for my Lord, to do something for others." I believe that Martin Luther King, Jr. has done everything that he said he wanted to. Through his service, he became a pillar of hope and positive moral values to everyone; not just African-Americans, but everyone who was and is striving for equality and freedom. Martin Luther King, Jr. did all this through service. |
