Flowers bloom mainly from spring to early autumn. The flowers each have 6 tepals; usually 1 central upper tepal, 3 often quite small lower or lip tepals, and 2 side, or wing tepals. They open from the bottom of the spikes upward, older blooms dying off as new ones develop.

Family Name: Malvaceae Genus of about 60 species of biennials and short-lived perennials found in temperate regions of Europe and Asia usually in rocky sites and on dry, grassy wasteland. Flowers are funnel-shaped, 5-petaled, brightly colored, often double in cultivars, and borne in summer. Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.

Sow seed at 70-81 degrees F. Divide in spring. Plant in summer.
