| Prologue Julie walked down the long hall of Lincoln high, carrying her books in one hand she held a Dr. Pepper can in the other. She heard someone call out to her and turned around a bit as she kept walking, not seeing the person she was about to run into until they collided and both of them fell back onto the hard floor. "Gawd, watch where you're walkin'." She heard an unfamiliar voice mumble as he got up and brushed himself off. Julie sat there on the floor until he gave in and helped her up. Dr. Pepper had gotten all over her gray and blue faded t-shirt. She grumbled and picked up her stuff. As the guy started to walk away she muttered "Get a freakin' eye dog." and started to walk down the hall once more... 3 hours later The tardy bell rang for third period and Julie watched a few people stroll into the room late. A girl she knew as Kyra turned around to face her. "Have you seen the new guy yet? Man, is he hot or what?" She loudly whispered. Julie looked up at her a bit. Not even knowing why Kyra was talking to her, they hadn't said more than two words to each other in all the years they went to school together. "What new guy?" "HIM." She said, pointing her long colorful fingernail to a guy sitting a few seats away. He was kind of cute, but she had seen him somewhere before. Julie dismissed the thought of knowing him from somewhere as class started. Every now and then she'd glance over in his direction to find him either throwing little pieces of paper up at Laura who was sitting in front of him, or he was gazing out the window. When fourth period came around Julie had realized where she knew the new guy from, and now she knew that his name was Brian. Brian had been the guy that so rudely ran into her earlier in the hallway. She also knew that she had third, Fourth, and Sixth hour with him. Julie took her seat for English right as the last bell rang and laughed at her friend Codi who tripped coming through the door, trying to make it on time. Codi stood up and dusted herself off, smoothing out her black shirt and taking the seat behind Julie, hitting her in the back of the head on the way. Julie grabbed the back of her head in pain. "Life's tough. Get a helmet." Codi whispered behind her. The room fell silent as Mrs. Rankle, the English, and Literature teacher stepped in the room. She posted a few papers up on the small bulletin board and took her seat. "Those papers over there that I just posted" She began, pointing to the bulletin "Are the parts each of you have in the play 'Romeo and Juliet'. We will start rehearsals tomorrow right after school." She announced and began fiddling with some papers on her desk. Half the class rushed up to the bulletin board and started calling out names. Julie and Brian reached the board at the same time and looked for their names, side by side it said Julie would play Juliet, and Brian would play Romeo. They turned to each other with disgusted faces and said at once "YOU!?" |
