Entry No:

Monthly Meeting...

November 30th, 2000

This months meeting was a brief affair (followed by a lengthier social gathering and Happy Birthday wishes to ArtsAction member Jelina Haines).

Many artists were present as it had been decided that works for the coming weekend's exhibition would be delivered at this meeting. Consequently viewing the range  and variety of submitted works proved distracting but most welcome.

Things that were disscussed include:

  1. Our petition for a permanent space in Gawler was presented to the Gawler Council meeting on Tuesday, November 28th. A large turnout of ArtsAction members were present at the council meeting to show support. PR Officer Julia Mannix was the main speaker on behalf of the group and presented our case to council - emphasising our preference for the Gawler Courthouse as our location of choice.

By all accounts the council indicated positive support for finding a space in Gawler for our local artists and would assist in aquiring a permanent residence.

  2. A spin off benefit of this meeting was that our presentation to council so impressed Bunyip reporter, Kelly Stone (whom reports on all council meetings), that she offered to write one last article featuring our group and the situation of the Arts in general in Gawler before she leaves to write for the Advertiser. Photography sessions outside the local courthouse and featuring our exhibition have been arranged so expect to see more pictures and an article in the Bunyip real soon.

  3. Group President, Judy Ferguson, gave a radio interview about the group on local station 2UF with Rhonda Fyfe.

  4. Roster for people looking after the exhibition was finalised.

  5. A raffle is being run at the exhibition with tickets priced at $1. Prizes include; $50 voucher from Totally Framed, $25 voucher from Kornacraft and a Gift Hamper from Coles Supermarkets.

People attending the exhibition will also be able to vote for their favourite artwork in the 'People's choice' award. This is the only award on offer to exhibiting artist's so competition to get the most number of friends (and of course their very new friends attending the exhibition) to vote for their particular work will be hot! The prize is a $30 voucher from Totally Framed.

After the semi formal meeting the rest of the night was an impromptu social affair. With thanks to Jelina Haines and Julia Mannix who brought cake and finger foods and to help celebrate Jelina's birthday. Also thanks to John Spencer who always supplies liquid refreshments at every meeting.

It was a good night in the presence of many fine people and their artworks giving a positive feeling towards what we hope will be a very successful exhibition on December 2 & 3.
