This months meeting was a short affair due to much of the time being devoted to receiving and organising
artworks being submitted for our Mid Winter Exhibition at the Bethany School House Gallery.
Items disscussed included:
- This week we made two local newspapers with press reports about our group. The first was an article in
'The Leader' which was considered to be very good. The second appeared in the Messenger which you can read online here. [there is closeup of myself in the articles photo - you have been warned!]. Unfortunately PR Officer, Julia Mannix and
Secretary, Marjorie Macrae were not happy with the content of the article as they felt it didn't accurately report what they had disscussed with messenger reporter,
Eleanor Miller.
- It was announced that Gerlinda Trappe from the Barrossa Art Council would be a guest speaker at our July
meeting. Gerlinda will talk about grants and other programs available to local artists and groups in the area.
- There was a reminder for our exhibition in November for Gawler's Centenary of Federation celebrations. Our
exhibition will be held upstairs at the Gawler Tourist information centre. The theme for all artworks is "The Meeting of Two Rivers".
There is also a meeting
between council and groups who have applied for funding for the festival on the 4th July.
Julia Mannix confirmed that Sheree Watkins will open this exhibition.
- The Jacaranda Festival is still going ahead at a smaller scale despite the recent loss of a large number
of trees. Street Stalls are available for $20.00 per stall. ArtsAction may consider a stall to raise awareness of the group. The festival is on Sunday 25th November.
- The Gawler River Hall (on Gawler River Road) owned by the Uniting Church has been offered to the group for
a 'peppercorn' rent. The church no longer requires the building to be used as a church but would like to find a reliable tenant to maintain the building.
President
Judy Ferguson said the building was very good in terms of facilities, size and condition and would be an excellent venue for holding workshops. However the romote location
made it questionable as to whether it would be an ideal facility for ArtsAction to use as a base.
- The Galleries commission on works sold at the Mid Winter exhibition has been reduced from 20% to 15%.
