The third monthly meeting is well attended. Issues discussed include:
- The Petition to ask the Gawler Council to provide gallery space for local artists to display/perform and
sell their work is still being circulated with a few new attendee's also adding their support.
- The groups is still continuing pursuing the possibilty of using the Gawler court house as a gallery space.
Local Council have taken an interest in this issue and it seems the main stumbling block is an undefined boundry line between the Police station and the court house.
Another location considered was some Rooms at the local Rec Centre. While these would be good for short exhibitions using them as a permenent location isn't possible
due to other community groups also using the space.
- The Groups Constitution is finalised and 11 committee members were voted in. The major committee positions
voted in were: President - Judy Gillett- Furgusson, Vice President - John Spencer and Secretary - Marjorie Macrae.
Club fees were also established for the group
with these being payable annually. Prices are as follows: Family $20.00, Adult $10, Junior (under 16) $5 and concension/pension $5. All people wishing to be members are
now required to pay their fees for the 2000-2001 period.
- It was raised the using the word 'Co-operative' in our group name could present a legal issue in that a
'Co-operative' is an official legal structure which requires certain special rules to be followed. Legal advice is being sought and if this turns out to be a problem the
group will change its name. One possible suggestion was 'The Gawler Arts Collective'.
- Date for a group exhibiton was set for the 2nd and 3rd of December at the Eagle Foundry. Attention will
probably focus on this for the remainder of the year.
