About Chapter 108

What is EAA?

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to promoting exerimental and general aviation. EAA provides technical guidance to builders of experimental aircraft from its headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and through almost 1000 local chapters throughout the U.S. and around the world. EAA has divisions devoted to antique aircraft, ultralights, warbirds, and aerobatics. The National Association of Flight Instructors is also affiliated with EAA.  Chapters of these specialty groups are scattered across the U.S. as well.

EAA provides many benefits to its members.  Members receive a monthly magazine, Sport Aviation, that is one of the best magazines in aviation.  Members of the specialty divisions also receive a magazine specific to their division.  All members may also elect to receive Experimenter a publication that focuses on the hands-on aspect of building experimental aircraft.  Other programs provided through EAA include aircraft insurance, travel services, and video production.

EAA is most famous for its annual fly-in at Oshkosh. EAA Airventure Oshkosh is the largest fly-in in the world with almost a million visitors each year.

The Fort Walton Beach Chapter
Our local chapter of EAA promotes aviation and good old-fashion fun through fly-ins, workshops, cross-country trips, and picnics.  Chapter 108 sponsors a small pancake breakfast fly-in every May and has a picnic fly-in every few months.  The chapter visits the aircraft projects of local builders several times per year and folks are always available to help with various building tasks.  Our Christmas party each December is always lots of fun.

Chapter 108 is one of the host chapters for the EAA Southeast Regional Fly-in (SERFI).  This fly-in is generally the second weekend of October in Evergreen, AL.  Chapter 108 provides breakfast during the fly-in and assists with the awards banquet.

One of the most satisfying things that Chapter 108 does is the Young Eagles Program. Young Eagles is an EAA program to give teenage youth their first aircraft ride for free.  EAA has recently started a similar program to encourage adults to begin flying lessons.  The Flying Start Program brings together interested adults and local pilots, flight instructors, and other aviation activities.

To Learn More...
Contact one of our members or just drop by one of our meetings.  Local EAA chapters are famous for their warm welcomes.  In fact, an EAA chapter is probably one of the most friendly places you'll find in all of aviation.  Chapter 108 is no different.

If you are interested in joining the national EAA, please see their web site.  To join the local chapter, just drop by one of our meetings.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
