Air/Fuel Mixture Gauge, Even More Continued....... |

And here's what it looks like with the muffler installed on my car. You can see, the sensor is out of harms way, and isn't very visible. The next step is to route the wiring harness up to the front of the car. Since most VW owners do it different way's, I left out the boring pics of it. Basically, all I did was run the harness to where the battery cable runs through the car, then under the carpet from there to the inside of the trunk. I used the supplied Velcro to attach the A/F gauge to the underside of the dash. The really nice thing about this gauge, is the color coordinated lights, so you dont have to look directly at the gauge, to see what mixture you're running. Very handy, if you're in traffic! The wiring of it is VERY straight forward, and even has a wire you can hook up to your headlights, so if you are driving at night, the lights on the gauge will dim! |

Armed with a large chunk of Weber brass, I attack the jetting project with ease, because I know, there will be no guess work now! |

So, How's It Work? |

When I first fired up my car, I got a bit pissy. The gauge was sitting on the far left red light. I couldn't be running this lean, could I? Then I saw it. After about 20-30 seconds, you can actually watch the o2 sensor warm up, as the lights climb on the gauge! The jetting that I had 'guessed' on being right in my car, was actually way too rich! I wouldn't have known this without the gauge, and if you think about it, in fuel savings alone, (especially with the gas prices now!) this thing will pay for itself in no time! It is money well spent, if you think about it. You get a more efficient engine, get more power, and save more money! And as for the cost of it, it's priced very good for some of the other A/F gauges out there. I've seen the autometer gauge for $50 (gauge only) and the LED's on it move around so fast, you cant see what your mixture is, and it peggs full lean, and full rich for no reason at all. Basically, an unuseable gauge if you ask me. |
