Pre-Rehearsal Preparation

A. Students will be in class on time and be ready at the first downbeat.

B. Come to class prepared to play your instrument, not to do other class work.

C. Check the chalkboard daily for rehearsal order and announcements.

D. Check your music folio. Shortage or errors in distribution of parts should be reported to a music librarian before the director starts rehearsing.

E. Instrument cases go away from storage room doors and the walk way but not under your chair during rehearsal.
(This will be adjusted to fit Band size)

    Warm-ups

    F. Warm up only on your own instrument. As a general rule, Percussionists do not need to play the percussion instruments to warm up. Do not warm up on the drum set.

    G. Warm up intelligently. This means softly, in the lower register of your horn, and usually involves long tones. Warm up before the start of the rehearsal.

    H. Tune! Not only at the beginning of the rehearsal, but all through the rehearsal. During the tuning period, only tune; do not practice.

    Rehearsal

    I. Do not leave your seat after the rehearsal starts - This means being prepared with any necessary equipment.

    J. When the conductor gets on the podium, please be quiet. When he gets off the podium, you may talk quietly.

    K. When the baton goes up, place your instrument in playing position and give the director your undivided attention.

    L. Avoid playing between selections, except when tuning. Do not tune when the director gets back on the podium.

    M. An occasional mistake in rehearsal is to be expected. However there is NO excuse for making the same mistake over and over. If the part is too difficult for you inform the director of this fact. He will either give you another part or adapt the old part to your ability.

    N. Do not chew gum in the Band Room; do not bring food or drinks to class.

    O. Take care of both personal and school equipment.

    P. If you are ill and feel that you cannot play, check in with the teacher. If you are too ill to play you should probably go home.

    Q. Clean your instrument or do other maintenance outside of Band Rehearsal.
    R. Play only your assigned instrument.

    S. Play only your assigned part or part assigned by the instructor.

    T. Maintain good posture. Keep both feet on the floor. A band that sits well plays well.

    U. Please give your full attention to whoever is conducting, whether it is your
director, a student conductor, or substitute conductor.

    V. After rehearsal, put your instrument into its case correctly, then into proper storage space. Also, put your music away in the proper slot.
