Parental Help

There are many times during the year when your band student
needs you to guide them to success. Some parents that have never
been involved in band themselves, do not really understand how to
do this. Here are some tips to get you started. Students need
support from parents at home to understand the hard work and
dedication needed to make anything a success and music is no
different.

How you can help your young
musician:

Show an interest in the music study of your child.
Arrange a regular time for practice.
Find a quiet place to practice without interruptions.
Assist with practicing - study the text, help with counting,
etc.
Never make fun of the sounds the student may make at first.
Locate a safe place in which to store the instrument.
Discourage anyone other than the student from handling the
instrument.
Keep the instrument in good repair with additional reeds (at
least two extra), slide cream, valve oil, and cleaning equipment
in the case. Music stores generally have these items in
stock.
Stress importance of faithful attendance at all activities.
Encourage the student to play for others when appropriate.
