A question was asked in the Message section of The Marine Guestbook about the history of the Marine Corps and its mascot, the English bulldog. Well, after some digging, and with the help of the Reference Section of the Marine Corps Historical Division and the Public Affairs Office at Marine Barracks, 8th and I, Washington, D.C., I discovered that the Marine Corps does NOT have an official mascot. I did manage to get information on how the association came about and a few stories concerning the mascot at MCB Quantico and the more famous one at Marine Barracks, 8th &I, Washington, DC. The two articles that follow are a compilation of information gleaned from documents I received from the above sources.
