Earl the PeaceMaker's Appeal
"I am sending out an S.O.S. to America. We need your help!"
March 9, 2000 - Phoenix, Arizona Greetings from Phoenix, AZ., Hello my fellow Americans, my name is Earl "Peacemaker" Standberry II and I am walking from Pasadena CA., to Washington D.C. for peace. The reason I have chosen to walk for peace is because, as a former Marine and Gulf War veteran, I have seen first hand what war does to people and countries. I have seen innocent civilians sprawled out on the grounds covered in blood and some so torn to shreds that you can't tell if they are man or woman. I have seen with my own eyes that 'no one' wins wars only death wins. The question one asks him/herself after seeing such destruction is, "WHAT IF THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS?" Well the sad fact of the matter is that they are our relatives in some way. If the Bible is correct aren't we all from the same Creator, didn't God make us all in God's own image? I believe God did and if that's true then God is in all of us and that is the side of you I am appealing to. THE INNOCENT VICTIMS ARE CRYING OUT!!!!!!! I am carrying along with me a replica memorial stone for "Unknown Civilians Killed in War." Some one asked me for which war and I say all wars from the beginning of time to the senseless killings on our streets today. The actual stone was created by some very caring people from a place called the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Massachusetts. <http://www.peaceabbey.org> In 1994 the memorial stone was dedicated by Mohammed Ali and had been sitting on the grounds at the Peace Abbey until last summer. I was fortunate to be part of a core group, who with the help of thousands of our fellow Americans, pushed and pulled the 2000 lb. stone to Arlington National Cemetery. The project was called "Stonewalk" and people from around the country and even the world sweated and cried as the stone moved from Sherborn, Mass. to Washington D.C. What an awesome site to see people who didn't know each other coming together for a common cause,a cause much larger than ourselves. After 500 grueling miles of blood, sweat and tears the stone was denied entrance into Arlington National Cemetery. They wanted to break up the memorial stone which honors all civilians killed in war. So the stone was walked to Georgetown University where it sits looking for a home next to the very soldiers the civilians died next to. Since the stone has been rejected in Washington, it will start a journey this summer - wandering the world until our government accepts it here. THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP AMERICA! THERE IS STILL HOPE!!!!!!!! The only way that our government will accept this gift, this closure for the millions and millions of our people who have no voice, is through an 'Act of Congress'. Well, the last time I checked they still worked for us and we pay their salaries. I believe that you, the people, deserve to be heard and would like to see history be made here in our country first. Let us be the first country to erect a Civilians monument and continue to be a World Power. I am afraid that one day 'we' could be the next civilians killed and wouldn't you want to be remembered? To find out how to contact your Senator and Congressman/woman use the links below.. I know they want to hear from you and I am proud to have served this country and all of you, now I serve for peace. LET US BE FIRST TO MAKE HISTORY AND ERECT A CIVILIAN MEMORIAL IN ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
