I was first exposed to the legend that is Clayton last year. It was a freezing, foggy, December night (Note: It was actually a balmy, clear evening in March although the former sounds more dramatic.) City ‘reserves’ were playing against Easington United in a vital East Riding Senior Cup semi final with only Willo and Morley as familiar faces in an otherwise inexperienced team. Then, with the mighty Tigers 3-0 in front, Super Clayton powered through the mist like colossus and with an awe-inspiring piece of skill he managed to miss the goal from 1 yard out with no opposition in sight. Myself, 2 editors of Amber Nectar and 2 Tiger Chat FC players looked at each other in amazement. A legend had been born.
For those who have yet to see the master in action I’ll describe his holiness too you. He is a virtual spitting image of Gavin Gordon when he broke into the team including the dreadlocks. I keenly followed Super Clay’s progress in the juniors, waiting to see what audacious piece of ability Clayton would show us this week, he didn’t disappoint. Falling over while running, letting the ball hit him on the back of the head and misses that made Jason Harris look positively prolific in front of goal. Yet the Donaldsonmeister didn’t just strike fear into the hearts of young junior defenders he also had the better of those in the reserves. His immenseness started has started as sub most games obviously Moore and Smith want to give the opposition a chance although in the second half my hero emerges and leaden of foot and first touch he adds so much to the second XI’s front line.
Clayton's contract is up in the summer, We can only hope he is given another one as he is here to save us all from the likes of Dudfield and Alexander and other incompetent strikers. Go Super Clayton, Go.
