The Tigers were cruelly denied a win at Plainmoor thanks to an awful refereeing decision. Andy Holt beat the offside trap to put us ahead after 79 minutes, latching on to a Justin Whittle header from midfield. And it looked to be enough for 3 points, until disaster struck with only stoppage time left. Jason Rees clearly handballed for the home side, but neither the referee or the linesman, who was looking straight at it, gave anything. Immediately, as the ball was put in to City's area, it struck the goalscorer Holt on the arm and a penalty was awarded. Richard Kell stroked home past Paul Musselwhite to pull Torquay level. However, the home side almost snatched 3 points in stoppage time when a Gulls forward rounded Mussy only for Justin Whittle to make a superb last ditch tackle. Let's hope these two points we should have had are not costly at the end of the season. |
