So, when was the last time you flipped through a women's magazine?  What percentage of articles were concerned with keeping fit, getting toned, losing those last few pounds or other weight-loss nonsense?  I would venture a guess and say that the majority of the articles were on that topic.  And women seem to be sucking them up by the subscription-full.
And so what does that say?  Well, I would say that it means that women want to be thin.  They want to be healthy.  They want to have toned muscles and no fat.  They want a quick-fix in order to look like the model on the cover of the magazine!  AHHH, so that's it.  "I want to look like her."
So, let's just say that Jane (a completely fictional character) decides that she's had it.  She's sick of being fat (although she's not really fat, she's 5'6" and weighs 125 pounds) and she's going to lose that weight.  She doesn't want that little bit of "cottage cheese" on the back of her legs and she's sick of her "poochy" stomach.  So Jane stocks up on a ton of magazines; Self, Fitness, Cosmo, Redbook and the list goes on.  She cuts out all of the articles that have anything to do with weight loss, dieting, exercising, weight training and low-calorie meals and she puts them all together in a big binder.  And then she dives in to her new diet regimen.  She starts off cutting her calories in half and eating only proteins and fats.  She joins a gym and starts working out every day for an hour.  She carries carrots everywhere with her and has even given up her favorite soda.  One week later she's exhausted.  She has lost a couple pounds (mostly water weight) but she's so hungry.  Jane then heads over to her freezer and pulls out that gallon of icecream left over from the week before.   And she eats the whole thing.  As she's licking the last spoonful out of the carton she has a panic attack.  She sees the model peeking out from the cover of one of the magazines and Jane freaks out.  "Oh no," she thinks to herself.   "What have I done!  I've going to gain back all that weight now."   And she runs to the bathroom and forces herself to throw up all of that ice cream.   She vows never to binge again.  But the cycle just keeps going.
