Model rail accessories such as signals and barriers are often actuated by a solenoid. Brawa has introduced into the market miniature railway accessories which are activated by a Linear Shape Memory Tensile Wire of 120 um diameter. In contrast to the abrupt motion of the signals and barriers when actuated by solenoids, shape memory wire actuators provide a more realistic, slower motion of the same signals and barriers.
