"Music at that point was so prefabricated, so fake, so hairspray that Nirvana was really a breath of fresh air," Cobain biographer Charles Cross says when Nirvana went to record Nevermind. "It was more organic than anything we'd seen in music in years."

As many of you music fans know, Monday, April 5th was the 10th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain. I have never been a huge Nirvana fan, but I have always respected him as a musician. He had talent and was a truly gifted song-writer. I don't think today's music would be what it is without his influence on it. He had a profound impact and sometimes I don't think anyone other than the fans realize just how much. "Nevermind" is considered one of the most important albums of the 90s.

Another big music thing I have heard of is Skate & Surf Festival. This is a major musical event for fans and artists alike. It's a chance to give local and unknown bands a shot to really succeed and gain more of a fan base. It's held in Asbury Park, NJ. Tickets aren't cheap, but are definitely worth the money. It's a chance for the fans to discover new genres of music. There actually is music other than Spear Britney and *NSUCK. There are so many bands out there that don't get recognized or credit for their hard work and dedication. Take the time and go spend some time on the Jersey Shore listening to kick ass music. You just might enjoy some music that has substance by musicians with brain cells. You know, the ones that know the difference between Chicken and Tuna.

I was reading something I found on a website and it got me kinda mad. It was an article about Good Charlotte and Blink 182 being blamed for a 17 year-old girls suicide.

How can you blame music for people killing themselves? Especially these two bands. Both bands support causes that try to prevent teens from commiting suicide. This particular subject is close to their hearts and they have lost people to suicide. Why would they tell kids that it's ok to do this? Good Charlotte has a song, "Hold On", on their latest album that has saved so many lives because it has a message that suicide isn't the answer. The parents were upset because when their daughter left a note saying she wanted "The Day That I Die" and "Adam's Song" played at her funeral they decided to listen to the lyrics. They think these two songs were what caused their daughter to commit suicide. I don't think that has anything to do with her killing herself. I think that when a person plays those songs, it's the persons way of telling people how they feel. It's their way of asking for help and I think the parents are to blame, at least partly. Not everyone who plays music that has a depressing or death related vibe means the persons depressed, but it should be the parents job to at least ask their kids if they are ok. Music is a kids way of expressing themselves and how they feel. Sometimes it's not easy for kids to tell people things. In those cases it's the parents, friends, or familys job to keep an eye on them. They may not be suicidal, but they may be struggling with whatever's going on in their life. Sometimes people think of suicide when they run out of ways to cope with things.

Music doesn't kill people. It doesn't hold a gun to their head. It's not the musicians fault how people react to their music.

The Nirvana quote came from this article: Kurt Cobain
