The IHSA
The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) is divided into 9 zones across the United States with multiple regions within these zones. IHSA competition is not only team based but individually based; there are regular shows in which students compete for spots in the regional show, winners from there go on to zone shows and then on to nationals.
IHSA horse shows are unique because the rider does not show on one horse. A rider is matched with a horse by a lottery system; there is a few minutes to practice on the horse before they must be judged in each show.
Included in the IHSA are Hunt Seat and Western Styles of riding. Dressage is part of another intercollegiate association.
Elmira College is in Zone 2 Region 3 and competes against:
Binghamton University Ithaca College
SUNY Cobleskill SUNY Morrisville
Colgate University Skidmore College
Cornell University Siena College
Hamilton College R.P.I.
Hartwick College
Currently Elmira only competes in the hunter/jumper division with hopes to compete in dressage and the western and reigning divisions in the future
