Gamma World
I recently began a Gamma World (4th Edition) campaign involving six of my regular players:
- Lefty (Mayo): AH Enforcer
- Kali Oakenears (John): AH Enforcer
- Aqua (Sumardawn): AH Esper
- Mudd (Ted): PSH Examiner
- Shelby (Julie): PSH Examiner
- Mallerus the Younger (Jimmy): AH Scout
My campaign is based loosely on the "Legion of Gold" module, adapted for 4th Edition and modified somewhat to suit my campaign.

Here are some of the key changes I made for the game:
- I replaced the cash base from the domar to the shilling, a silver coin the size of a poker chip. A gold crown is worth 20 shillings. Domars remain as an intangible form of electronic currency usually found programmed onto Universal Cards (Treasures of the Ancients).
- I increased the number of non-class; each 1st Level PC gets up to six additional skills that he or she can define. These do not necessarily have to be adventuring skills. Skills currently defined in the game are Driver (Rakoxen), Handloading, Musician (Flute), Musician (Singing), and Religion (Church of Elvis).
- I added some non-Cryptic Alliance religions, such as the Church of Elvis and the Celestial Chorus.
- I expanded the Common Weapons and Armor listings, as well as adding some additional equipment. I also made some slight changes to Ammunition.
- I reduced the general tech level of the artifacts to be found. The most common Ancient weapons in use are assault rifles and revolvers; sports gear, sheath armor (police riot armor), and light infantry armor (plastic armor) are the most common forms of Ancient armor. I generally substitute laser weaponry for blasters, and blasters for plasma and fusion weapons; I also toss the occasional heavy weapon (such as a minimissile launcher) into the mix.
- I made significant changes to the concept of Hydrox (Treasures of the Ancients).
HYDROX
- Tech Level: V
- Average Cost: 100 shillings/liter
- Weight: 0.5 kg/liter
- Hydrox is not nearly as toxic as depicted in Treasures of the Ancients, but it is extremely volatile; a few communities on the coasts maintain refineries in which they process small quantities hydrox from seawater and silt. The resulting liquid is then carefully transported to clients all across Mehrika for use as fuel.
- Although it is most commonly and easily distilled into a liquid fuel, it can also be processed as a gel, solid, or putty form. Solid-form hydrox can be powdered and processed to be used in the reloading of expended ammunition casings; the Ancients were able to manufacture caseless ammunition with powdered hydrox, but this knowledge has been lost. Chemical, Solar, and Hydrogen Energy Cells incorporate hydrox putty in their manufacture; gelled hydrox is the major component of the explosive in a chemex grenade.
