Darin
Gender: Masculine
Language: English
Etymology and History:
Darin is an alternate form of the name Darren. The name Darren (and its variants) is an odd case. It arose, quite suddenly, in the late fifties, for no obvious reason. One theory claims that Bobby Darin is responsible for the sudden rise. It is true that Bobby Darin (born Walden Robert Cassotto, 1936-1973) burst onto the scene in 1958 with Splish Splash, but it was the spelling d-a-r-r-e-n and not d-a-r-i-n that caught on initially. He either chose his name from a burnt-out neon sign originally reading Mandarin, or from a surname picked randomly in a phone book.
