Guide #7

Convert Divx to VCD

( adapted from the guide at www.vcdhelp.com )

Counter Tools: TMPEnc beta 12f+. To convert DivX videos you have to install a DivX Codec.

!

Launch TMPGEnc.

1. Select Video source
aka your divx movie (if you have trouble opening a video file read the problems section at the bottom of this page).
2. Hit the button Load at the bottom right and load the
VideoCD(PAL) if the original source in 25 fps
or
VideoCD(NTSC) if the source in 29,97/30fps
or
VideoCD(NTSCFilm) if the source is 23,97fps.
To check what the fps is using GDivX player open the file then right click the player and select "movie details" and it is listed there. To check whats fps it is click File->New Project and then open the avi/DivX/mpg/asf and check in the bottom of the window then load the Correct Template or load the avi/divx with virtualdub and check File->Information.
If the video is some strange fps as 60 fps or something try with either PAL or NTSCFilm and see what looks best.

3. Select Settings. (see below)
4. Before You Hit Start, it's wise to use the File->Preview to see how the video with look like and it's also good to make a short sample before you encode the entire movie. You can encode some seconds and Stop and view the output.
Settings:
Under Video select low or normal quality.

Under Advanced select these settings.

Select Source Aspect Ratio select 1:1 (VGA) (if your source is in 4:3 select 4:3 525 line(NTSC) for NTSC and 4:3 625 line(PAL) for PAL).
and under Video Arange Method Full screen (keep aspect ratio).

And under GOP, Quantizer matrices, Audio and System need no changes.

Now you can burn the mpg as a VCD or if it is too large for one CD you will need to cut  the mpg.

Problems:
If TMPGEnc gives you an error message when opening AVI, DivX,ASF,SMR,NAV be sure that you have installed the DivX Codec. If that does not work try to use the old TMPGenc 12a.

If you get no audio, out of sync or bad audio try to convert the audio to wav before converting. Use virtualdub read here how to do it.

If TMPGEnc freezes or crashes when converting a AVI, DivX, ASF, SMR or nAVI
try to convert the audio to wav before converting. Use virtualdub read here how to do it.

If you have problem converting MOV(Quicktime) Files You can try this MOV to AVI Conversion Guide or use QuickTime Pro and convert to AVI and after convert to MPG.

If you have trouble open WMV files try and rename it to .asf and open it.

I want a fullscreen movie, if the source is in WideScreen and you want it to be in FullScreen you just select under Advanced under Video Arange Method: No margin(keep aspect ratio) and TMPGEnc will then cut left and right so it will fit FullScreen.

If you have problem open DV video, DC30+,MJPEG captured video or any AVI VFW then try to change the settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the AVI VFW and increase the priority to 1 and try open the video.
