Abstract
Issues of rigor and trustworthiness in qualitative research continue
to challenge those who are new to this type of inquiry
especially when defending a qualitative inquiry to funding agencies, policy
makers and/or academic colleagues. In this presentation,
Dr. Merriam will review frequently asked questions about the validity
and reliability of qualitative research and their underlying
assumptions about the nature of reality and the role of the researcher.
Strategies that researchers can utilize for ensuring
for internal validity, reliability, and external validity or generalizability
will be discussed.
