Marsa Allam

What used to be a humble fishing town, has

now gained international attention as one of

world's top diving locations. Marsa Allam is

located 125 km south of El-Quseir, 270 km

south of Hurghada. It is also linked to the town

of Edfu in Upper Egypt by a 230 km road. At

the moment there are only two diving

camps in which to stay, they provide lodging, food, diving gear and tanks. However,

an international airport is under construction and various resorts are in the making.

One is already open, equiped with air-conditioned rooms and a swimming pool.

Marsa Allam, with its virgin dive sites and sunny beaches, promises to be the

Hurghada of the future. Diving trips by boat are organized from Hurghada to Marsa

Allam, some over night. Two famous diving sites are Elphin North and Elphin South,

you're guaranteed to see a shark or two there! If you have no axis to a car or taxi,

buses come to Marsa Allam from Safaga and El-Quseir. Another option would be to

cut through the Eastern Desert and take the five hour bus ride from Aswan. When

you're in Marsa Allam, don't go off the beaten track without a guide, some places are

known to be mined!
