United States Navy Aircraft Carriers

Why, if I was in the Air Force for 7 years, do I have a page on Carriers? Well, it was my job (Litton PRC, 1997-1998). Are they awesome? YES! Let me quote my friend Paul, "What other singular piece of equipment can sway another nation's policy by mere proximity?" OK, I don't have every carrier currently commissioned on my page, only the ones I have been on. The official homepage for these carriers are linked beneath the pics. You can find out all sorts of cool things about them there.

We'll start with the first one I was on, the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON. CVN-73, which means it's a pretty new ship. I was overwhelemed at it's size at the pier. My first experience with carriers.

Then I was onboard a newer carrier, the USS JOHN C. STENNIS. CVN-74, the biggest and best of the fleet. Funny enough, the Stennis didn't seem to impact me much, though I did notice it was a much newer (read cleaner) ship than the GW.

The USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, CVN-69. Spent 15 minutes on-board.

Welcome to the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, CVN-72! What a place. By far the cleanest and sharpest carrier in the fleet, my favorite ship thus far. I welcome any opportunity to visit the Lincoln! I have been on at both Evertt, WA and San Diego, CA.

The USS Nimitz, CVN-68 is getting ready to go to port for refitting or a refurburishing or a re-something for a couple of years.

I was recently onboard the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63, the carrier with a Vietnam Campaign Medal painted on the island! I was shocked to see what terrible shape the Kitty Hawk was in, but after only one week, the ship was sparkling like new - they had redone the decks and walls and painted and shined EVERYTHING right before my very eyes.

The USS Coronado (AGF11) Command ship for COMTHIRDFLT. Very different than being on a carrier. Frank took me out on the deck, it was pretty cool.

Meet Jeremey. IS2 (Intelligence Specialist, 2nd Class) Phillips is my friend and guide onboard the Lincoln, a place he has called home for three years.

Daytime on the flight deck; Nighttime, from the pier.

This is my childhood friend Brad, and his plane, a Mooney. Brad took me up one day and we "buzzed" the carriers where I got these next two shots.
