Autumn

In the past the food economy of autumn and winter was in high degree influenced by the autumn crops. E.g. rye flour was needed for bread and karjalanpiirakat, pasties filled with potato and eaten with egg butter.

Elk hunting is a popular leisure activity in autumn and venison is e.g. used in Karjalanpaisti, "Karelian meat stew", a popular dish, usually eaten on Sundays. Forest and garden–grown berries are used in a variety of ways.
