The Comedy of Errors

Two sets of twin brothers-one set is servant to the other-are seperated shortly after birth.  One of the brothers, in search of the other, stumbles upon the town where he lives.  Laughs and crazy hijinks occur.

Normally I find that this kind of mistaken-identity stuff gets old pretty fast, but I was introduced to this play by seeing a good production, which helped more than I can say.  The best way to describe this play is that the production I saw was set in Texas in the 1940s, and the setting worked perfectly fine.  This play could be in any setting, any place or time.  And the more slapstick violence, the better.  Violence draws your attention from the stupidity of the plot.  But the ending ties everything together pretty nicely, and somehow it all works.  This really does involve some actual issues if you want to pay attention, with musings about the fragility of identity and the untrustworthiness of appearance...or you can just laugh at the servants getting smacked around, which can be pretty funny.
