The Story of King Arthur

Most of what I know about King Arthur comes from a comic book version of disney's The Sword in the Stone and various TV shows, but here goes.  Arthur was the son of an earlier king somewhere in Britain who abandoned him at birth.  He was then raised and trained by Merlin the wizard, and as a young man he gained his rightful position as king by pulling the sword Excalibur out of...um...a really big stone, and then other stuff happened, and then the events of Camelot happened.  In the battle which takes place shortly after the play, most of the main characters were killed, except for Lancelot and Guenevere, who went off to seperate religious orders.

Just in case it wasn't clear before, none of this ever actually happened, of course.  There may have been a King Arthur sometime around 400 BC, but Guenevere and Lancelot come out of french medieval romance stories, and Merlin probably comes from British mythology, though I'm way over my head even trying to guess...

There's a really big book near the bottom of a stack in my closet begging to be read, and I should be able to add to this later on once I've read it.
