Fencing in the Mel Gibson Hamlet

I've never seen a fencing style quite like this-it must be some kind of Viking dueling technique.  First Hamlet and Laertes run around hacking at each other for a while, then they put on armor and run around hacking at each other some more, then they take the armor back off, take parrying daggers, and run around hacking at each other a third time.  Beats the hell out of me.
