Love's Labour's Lost

Four guys vow to seclude themselves from women and from the world for three years. (yeah, sure, and I have a bridge to sell you) They then proceed to fall for the first hot chicks they see.  The women make fools out of the men for the next few acts and then find an excuse to dump them.

I'm sure that the ending is supposed to be profound somehow, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  This is a comedy, for god's sake.  They're supposed to get married, not sort of possibly engaged.  Now, I'm all for making fools out of stupid men, but sooner or later it has to end, and end happily.  I think this is supposed to be a blend of comedy and tragedy, but it's a far less sucessful blend than Measure for Measure is.  That at least has its funny moments; Love's Labour's Lost just suddenly becomes gloomy.  Avoid it if at all possible.  Better yet, read everything up to the last couple pages and then imagine you own happy ending.
