The duke of Vienna goes about diguised as a monk to see how his deputy would be as a ruler. The deputy sentences a man to death for fornication and then propositions the man's sister. It turns out that this same deputy had dumped his fiancee when she lost her dowry. The duke eventually reveals himself and sets right all the wrongs the deputy did.
Like most of the comedies, this revolves around love and marriage, except this one focuses on sex. A lot. Now that I've inspired you all to read it... There's not a whole lot to say about this play. It manages to blend comedy with an element of tragedy successfully. So it's not exactly deep but it's worth reading. Oh, and it talks about the complications in Elizabethan relationships and the marriage process.
