To Kill a Mockingbird

by Harper Lee

A classic.  A white lawyer in Alabama defends a black man accused of raping the daughter of the town scumbag.  (damn, that's a fun word, scumbag) The young daughter of the lawyer and her big brother learn a few things about life and about race relations in the process.  This is just an amazing book in so many ways and a fascinating look at life in the south a few decades ago. There was a good movie version made in 1962 starring Gregory Peck and including the debut of Robert Duvall.  I would recommend this to anyone at all.
