Sherlock Holmes

by Arthur Conan Doyle

I don't read a lot of mysteries, but these stories are too good to pass up.  As a history buff I appreciate the vivid imagery of Victorian London.  Beyond that, most of the stories and novels really are good mysteries with lots of suspense.  See if you can figure out whether Watson's old war wound is in his leg or his shoulder.  My favorite story, again as a history buff, is The Musgrave Ritual.  Read it to find out why.  I haven't read the recent series by Larry Millett, but I'd recommend those on principle too.
