The Sound of Music on Broadway

This is interesting more for historical purposes and that kind of thing and for hearing the stage-only songs than on its only merits.  The guy who plays Max isn't very good, though the guy who plays the captain is.  Mary Martin is okay-and she sang for herself-but she doesn't have the boundless ebergy she needs.  the kids are unremarkable, except for Liesl, who is worse than unremarkable.  This CD does, however, include a long orchestra piece which has bits of every song from both versions (written after the movie), like a really long overture, which is a lot of fun to listen to.  The bit they play of "Something Good" is very nice, as is the bit of "My Favorite Things", and the opening.  Worth buying, though only if it's fairly cheap.
