history

biography • jinchuu • his story • character profile • techniques • Enishi in anime

According to Enishi, his sword is a long tachi, of Japanese style but Chinese make. It's longer than the other swords found in the series.

The whole style is called Wattoujutsu. This is a group of sword techniques compiled by the Chinese military, having observed and copied Japanese sword techniques they had seen in battle. Enishi, resourceful and talented boy that he is, taught himself the techniques out of a book. We could only guess just how useful they were to him as he worked his way up the ranks.

It is said that Watsuki probably derived the principles of Wattoujutsu from wushu, Chinese martial arts with several techniques for the sword (You might probably have seen it in the Olympics). Many sword-oriented RK fans have said that almost all of the techniques are really do-able.

Specific descriptions of the techniques are located in the depths of Let It Burn. So many people have taken from her work, I do not want to add to them. Her definitions were taken directly from the Kenshin Kaden, so please visit there as well.

Shuugeki Tou Sei -- First used on Kenshin, kicking the sword to the enemy

Kaishi Tou Sei -- Thrust

Sen Ran Tou Sei -- Crouched, spinning attack (above)

Shou Ha Tou Sei -- Forcefully tapping the sword at the tip of hilt to propel it forward toward the enemy

Chou Ten Tou Sei -- Planting the sword on the ground, then jumping from it for leverage, then pulling up the sword to use for attack

Gou Tsui Tou Sei -- Thrust, then twist sword and take the enemy down with it

Shikku Tou Sei -- Overhead attack

Zetsugi -- the ultimate technique (ougi), countering the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki. It starts as Sen Ran Tou Sei, crouching to avoid the vacuuming power of the ARNH, then Enishi thrusts the sword up to attack.

Kyokeimyaku/Nerves of Insanity -- not a technique, but a battle state. When angered enough, and he wills it to be so, his nerves bulge out to facilitate the heightened senses and reflexes it creates. [As a medical student, EK doesn't contradict the basic principle. Anger can indeed induce more chemical release, thus increase reaction of nerves, and thus improve senses and movement. However, she refutes how Watsuki presents the Nerves of Insanity. Nerves never bulge out, nerves are frequently too deep to appear through skin, and there are no nerves that branch out the way Watsuki drew it.]
