Moon Over Manhattan

Prologue

8 months ago:

The two gargoyles and the human woman who accompanied them drifted through the mists of Avalon slowly.

Goliath, Angela, and Elisa's travels along the magical mists were long and tedious, and each day they hoped the mists would send them home.  The journey had already lasted for over a month.  The gargoyle dog who accompanied them, Bronx, seem to be edgy as well.

"Is he awake yet?" Elisa asked.

Angela looked at the male gargoyle, who was currently lying prone.  "I think he's waking now..."

Slowly, Goliath stirred, "What... happened?" he asked.

Elisa shook her head, "You were hit by lightning, big guy!! You've been unconscious for about an hour ... I think..." she finished.

    "That cursed trickster!" Goliath mumbled.

    "Trickster?" Angela asked.

"You don't mean... PUCK?!" Elisa gasped.

Goliath nodded, "He sent me a nightmare, Elisa... and tried to steal the Phoenix Gate from me. He said he wished to give it to Oberon so that he may gain his Lord's favour," Goliath shook his head.

"He should have known you wouldn't simply hand it to him!" Elisa replied.

"He..." Goliath began, "He took YOUR form, Elisa.  He knew I would easily hand it over to you, but I saw through his illusion..." he looked at Elisa and smiled, "He is lousy at impersonating you my friend..."

Elisa smiled, "As long as you're all right now..." she said.

Goliath nodded, and stood up.  "Puck may try his trickery again,"  he said.  "I must make sure he does not succeed," Goliath took the Phoenix Gate out of the pouch he carried at his waist.  It was a small medallion, but held great powers.  He began the incantation that would activate it.  When the time portal opened, he threw the Phoenix Gate through it.

"Goliath!! Without a mind to direct the Phoenix Gate, it will be lost in time forever!" Elisa gasped. But this was Goliath's intention.  This way, no one could ever use it to change the past and alter the future.

A beautiful woman with long hair was standing at her eternal post.  She saw the light of the portal, and smiled.  Soon, the Phoenix Gate flew through the opening.  She quickly held up one graceful, white-gloved hand and grabbed it.  "Arigato, Goliath..." she began quietly, "Thank you..."
