Polyplacophora, Chitons are considered to be very primitive molluscs. Chitons are a very unusual group of Mullusks because they have protective armour made of eight separate overlapping plates held in position by an encircling muscular girds. The girdle has unusual spikes and spines. Chitons are long and strait. Chitons are adapted to living on hard rocky surfaces. They have a very strong foot, and when disturbed, can clamp down. Chintons can live fo twenty years or more. |
