This is an ancient class of fishes, all of which share the common characteristic of having lobe fins. There are one more sub-classes. Crossopterygii, lobe finned fish. we are not sure how closely they are related to dipnoi, lung fish, especially  becouse they both have lobe fins. However, it is hard to tell how related they are.

All the sarcopterygii are
viviparous, so they only give birth to a few, very highly dieveloped young.
