WISCONSIN DELLS--Bucky the Badger: cute-costumed mascot of the University
of
Wisconsin or bizarre immortal space alien? That's the question sparked by
newly discovered pictures chipped in stone by Native Americans 5,000 years
ago.
Ancient petroglyphs on cliffs overlooking the Wisconsin River have seem to
suggest that Bucky -- the same man-sized prankster who frolics at college
football games -- is not a gigantic badger at all, but a disguised ancient
astronaut, according to archeologists from the private Society for
Undertaking
Realistic Explanations (SURE).
"Here in the rocks is a clear depiction of a man-sized badger carrying
several human figures through the air to safety from a flood," said Dr.
Rufus
Von Damen, SURE's lead investigator. To forestall vandalism Von Damen could
not reveal the precise location of the petroglyphs, but he did display
several
photographs of a panel of rock some 10 by 20 feet. On the rocks were a
series
of seemingly innocuous scratches. But when exposed to only a ultraviolet
light, he said, the scratches coalesce into an amazingly clear scratches
which
can be interpreted by experts.
"The most important lesson here is not to accept every Bucky at face
value,"
Von Damen warns. He suggested testing any Bucky with a few quantum
mechanical
concepts thrown into casual conversation. An ancient astronaut will not
miss a
beat while a normal human disguised as Bucky will lose the thread of the
conversation. All Buckys should also be carefully followed and videotaped,
Von
Damen insisted, in order to catch them in the act of levitating.
