Norwegian Elkhounds,my interest and admiration for this breed of dog goes back to childhood as my parents had aquired one for us as children.Now as we raise our family,they have continued to be the choice breed.They are an excellent family dog.This breed is not a hound,dosen't look like a hound,but is a member of the group that includes,Alasken Malamutes,Siberian Huskies,Samoyeds and many more.The translation of the dog's true name is ELGHUND,ELG which is translated moose,not elk,and hund(meaning dog).I can remember as a child the attention they drew for their beauty,and the remarks of " WHAT KIND OF DOG?""DO THEY HUNT ELK?"I hope you enjoy your visit through my Elkhound world,they are a great,intelligent,wonderful,loyal,companion,if provided the space and attention they need,but are not for everyone as they do require alot of exercise,and attention.I hope to meet other fans of this great gray dog and if you are just surfing and wondering about the breed provide you with some helpful tips and links for a wealth of elkhound information.

10 COMMANDMENTS FOR LIVING WITH ELKHOUNDS

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years.Any separation from you will be painful for me.REMEMBER that BEFORE you get me.
2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.
3. Place your trust in me,it is crucial for my wellbeing.
4. Don't be angry with me for long,and don't lock me up for punishment.You have your work,entertainment and friends I only have YOU.
5. Talk to me sometimes.Even if I don't understand your words,I understand your voice.
6. Be aware of however you treat me I'll never forget.
7. Please don't hit me.I can't hit back,but I can bite and scratch and I really don't want to do that.
8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative,obstinate,or lazy,ask yourself if something might be bothering me.Perhaps I'm not getting the right foods or I've been out in the sun to long or my heart is getting old and weak!
9. Take care of me when I get old.You will get old too.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys.NEVER SAY,"I can't bear to watch,or let it happen in my absense."Everything is easier for me if you are there.And Always remember,I LOVE YOU!
