Works, Volume 2 is a compilation of the previously unused materials and singles from Works, Volume 1 and the Works Tour. The album includes covers of "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin, which Emerson recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, "Honky Tonk Train Blues" by Meade (Lux) Lewis and "Show Me the Way to Go Home" by Irving King. Peter Sinfield is also used on "Tiger in a Spotlight," "Brain Salad Surgery," "Watching Over You," "So Far To Fall" and "I Believe in Father Christmas."
Overall, this album is a little ragged. There are no progressive songs on the album, with the longest song being "So Far to Fall" at 4:55. It does, however, show the talent of the musicians rather well. And there were uses of the orchestra with the whole band.
