BUJAGALI FALLS AND THE SPEKE CAMP
After deciding to walk up the road (sans luggage), we found ourselves on a typical African road, tarmac for a while then back to the thick, red dust surface that gets everywhere. After walking through a couple of villages and getting mobbed by hordes of kids who were amazed to find out the mzungus had legs that worked, we stopped for a look around. A car pulled up alongside us and contained a German bloke who had borrowed a taxi from the airport. Apparently, the regular driver wasn't using it! He gave us a lift down to Bujagali Falls, where we got our first look at the Speke Camp, a backpackers right on the banks of the Nile and next to Bujagali Falls. To say we fell in love with the place is a bit like saying the UK is a bit wet and rainy. This place is gorgeous. So, after our first view, we decided that this was the place to stay for a while.
This is a scan from The Eye. Believe me, this ad is all true. Trust me, I've been there. It is about 30 metres from the banks of the Nile. I've stayed in a few backpackers in various countries and this has to be the best I have ever stayed at, for location, facilities and some of the friendliest people you will meet anywhere in the world, you will not beat it. If you ever go to Jinja, stay here and forget anywhere else. If you're not convinced yet, look at the view below. This is the first thing you see when you come into the camp.
Onto The camp!
