DESIGN FOR LIVING

MAY 10, 2001

Ok, well, I purposely deprived myself of DFL for 5 weeks.  I figured that I shouldn’t be *too* spoiled and bratty (if you knew my life, you’d understand), and money’s a bit of an issue too.  Plus, I figured that I should let the excitement build again.  Plus, I had to finish the semester.  WOOHOOOOOOOO.  Nice way to start the summer!

Naturally, I was really disappointed by the last picture.  He looks downright yummy, but I’m a total geekazoid.  It’s grown on me though.  I’ve come to think of that as my hyper giddy smile.  Scary, I know.  This time around, I went with my Dawn.  I’ve wanted her to go for so long, so this was a really happy day for me.  Plus, she’s been looking at Alan and going woohoo lately.  Hahahaha, I’m so proud :-)

I took care of my parents, and then we took a 4:30 train to NY.  When we got there, I realized that I left my camera in my car, but the film in my purse.  Retard!!!!!!  So, I had to buy a disposable camera in fucking NY.  $20!!!!  I almost passed out right there.  Let me tell you, that baby’s going to be used!   We walked to the theater, my first time navigating all 8 blocks by myself from Penn Station.  I usually follow Jamie blindly, but couldn’t do that today!  That was weird too--   this was my first time seeing the show without Jamie there!  Awww.  8th Ave is scary, that’s all I’ll say.  It’s not horrifying, but I don’t feel comfortable there, that’s for sure.  Of course DFL would be at the lowest part of the Broadway district, hehe.  Studio 54 is so much nicer.  The American Airlines Theater is nice though, gotta give them credit for that.

We ran to the box office, and I’m not kidding…I must have ended up with the girl who I fight with on the phone.  She thinks I’m nuts, and I think she’s a bitch.  Long story.  Anyway!  After hassle, I finally get the box I want.  Granted, mezzanine box seats don’t always have the best overall view of the stage, but they’re cheap and you have a *great* view of the actors.  Sigh :-)  Then we went to Applebees across the street, where they did not have their delicious veggie burgers!  Dear god!  Even McDonalds has those now (in NY at least).  So, we ended up getting the veggie quesadillas, which damn near seared our mouths for life!  We ordered more food and didn’t get carded for our drinks!  Well, Dawn just turned 21 five days ago, but I still have 6 months…Never have I had such a strong Mud Slide.  And that Long Island iced tea of hers…holy shit.  4 sips and she was practically down (and she can drink you under the table.  yeah!!!).

We went back to the theater and had a freakin wild goose chase to get to our seats.  See, I wanted the right box this time so I could see a different perspective of the actors faces.  First time I had a full on view, second and third I saw it from the left angle.  The left angle provides you with a better view of the whole set, but the right angle *really* lets you see their faces more.  The only time not seeing their faces was a problem was during part of the last 2 scenes, and the first part of Act 1, scene 3.  Now, when we finally got to the box, I damn near cried.  Another dude was there, which was fine, but that bitch gave us the last 2 seats.  Meaning, if Dawn leaned over like you should, she would be fine… but I had the seat right next to it, meaning you can’t see one bloody thing!!!  I seriously almost had a shit fit.  The dude was in front of her, and then another guy came in front of him.  There were still the 2 seats one step down.  I have never hoped so hard in my life for people not to come up the stairs.  As soon as the music started, Dawn and I hightailed it into those 2 seats!  WAY better view of the faces, I must say :-)

The play was really great tonight.  Alan was sooooooo giddy!  Oh I just loved it.  Although, he did have plenty of the intensity, don’t get me wrong.  I enjoyed it all so much.  Even the dude who’s Ernest wasn’t bothering me.  Hehe, I think I now have a friend who’s an Alan fan for life.  She saw him kiss Jennifer for the first time and almost fell off her chair.  Muwhahahahhaaha.  I did fall off my chair during part of it, I can’t remember which.  And I laughed so hard at one part that I inhaled a big chunk of hair into my throat, almost silently choking to death.  Dawn wasn’t expecting a full moon though, which was downright hilarious.  I think I saw a bit of…oh never mind, LOL.  The drunk scene between Alan and Dominic was particularly killing us.  We were buzzed ourselves, as we had just gone to get cosmopolitans during intermission.  That bad boy was so strong that I almost gagged and could only finish half (they don’t let you bring it inside).  She downed hers and finished mine, entertaining the bartender!  Then she bought water and almost had a heart attack over the price.  So yeah, watching their faces get all twisty and start analyzing words was personally hilarious for us.  Ah, it was just soooo great tonight.  They didn’t do the Broadway Cares speech though!!  And the playbill changed-  no more Alan article, boo.  I’m upset I never got the Matt McGrath article playbill
