Basic Day has come and gone and some more initiates and old faces spent a satisfying day with Muriel Wright at the National Stone Centre examining the limestone structures and old mining traces, which sparked much discussion on the direction of travel end size of the adits now exposed in the quarry faces. The Stone Centre is hosting some student sculptures which we kept bumping into on out way round the site, some seemed rather bizarre, but others seemed to fit in with the general setting of the site.

This was followed by a walk up the old railway line to the Black Rock sandstone outcrop where we had an excellent overview of Matlock Gorge, then a dermal denticle hunt on the way back to the car park.
