items in the Branch Library. All items may be borrowed by
members, for an indefinite period (or until requested by another member).
Contact Jane Smalley.
Did you know we have a selection of
books, maps, journals and videos, available to borrow?
Here is a rough guide as to how it works...
Time limits…
There’s no time limit to how long you can borrow a book for, just please be
aware that others might also want to borrow it.
How to borrow…
1) All the books are normally dusted off and brought out for people to borrow &
browse through at times like the December lecture day and the AGM in January.
2) You can also arrange to borrow a map, book etc by emailing me a week or so in
advance of a field trip that you’re attending.
3) A selection of maps and guides may be brought along to fieldtrips (if I’m
going) in future. This won’t be the whole library selection so if there’s
something specific you fancy having a look at please let me know in advance.
4) We may consider posting items out to you. Please email me for
details/confirmation of postal charges etc.
5) You can return them either at the fieldtrips or wait until the Dec or January
meetings.
And lastly… please, please, please clearly mark your books, maps etc in & out of
the loans book as I need to keep track of who’s got what.
New additions: - we’ve had several new journals, a book & a guide added to our
library collection over the last 6 months. These are...
Various Journals of the Vertebrate Palaeontology Society.
Orkney & Shetland, BGS Regional Guide by W Mykura.
Phylogenic Study of Amiid Fishes – by the Vertebrate Palaeontology Society.
Also… What did you think…??? Borrowed one of our books or journals & thought it
was really interesting, informative or a load of rubbish? Fancy writing a brief
synopsis of it to let your fellow members know your opinion. Other members maybe
thinking of reading it so could find
your review useful or might even have a different view after reading it
themselves!! Send your reviews to me by email.
Lastly – we are looking at downsizing some of our growing collection to keep it
manageable. This will start with some of the older journals, over 10 years old,
being offered to members.
If you are interested in having any of the journals please let me know before
the 1st May 2007.
Nothing is going to be thrown away, they will be donating to the Afghan
Geological Survey, they have very little left after many years of warfare and
material and books have been donated from the BGS and the OU to help them get
restarted, a good cause.
Thanks, Jane.
