A little about why...Well there I am in front of a stable by my favorite artist, Alexander Calder. This photo was taken in Chicago September 22, 1998. This is an incredible piece of artwork. I actually have none to very little artistic ability and appreciate Calder's works since he moved smoothly between the world of engineering and art. Notice the outdoor market going on underneath. I think Calder would have liked this.As the first page states my wife, Kristin, and I are traveling around the USA in our little VW van, Miles. Kristin started talking about such a trip several years ago but I was too deep into a new business to take it seriously. After, the startup company, atLightSpeed crashed and burned I had a new look at my life and work and decided that having lots of money didn't make me a better person or successful. Joel, a friend and collegue, introduced me to the book Your Money or Your Life. I read it and it really struck a chord with me. Kristin also read it and with her frugal scottish background just totally absorbed what Joe and Vicki had to say. Needless to say Your Money or Your Life is a great book and I highly recommend it. It's not a book that describes how to invest money but a book that describes how to have a relationship with money. Abbreviated HistoryI'm originally from Cartersville, Georgia but I've lived most of my life in or around Jacksonville, Florida. I graduated from the University of Florida in Electrical Engineering in 1990. (Being a good engineer you can view my out of date resume) I first worked making real money, for da Vinci Systems. I worked with Joel Gibson who taught me so much about electronics and logical thinking that I can never repay completely. We worked in Jacksonville in Joel's converted garage and designed the hardware for the worlds first 8:8:8 digital color corrector. Next, I ...more to come... |
