The Ring
A boyfriend should give his girl a great gift.
Something that will make her spirit lift.
A gift that will show their affections of love
Saying, "You're the only one I'm thinking of."
It should be a present for all eyes to see
With a little card saying "To: You From: Me"
It would reflect the love inside.
A love so strong, it would never hide.
So, all the boyfriends in the world,
Give this gift to your own girl.
It will be a most beautiful thing.
All it will be is a simple ring.
I entered this poem into the National Library of Poetry's latest contest. The deadline for entry was May 31, 1997. I recently received word that this poem has made it to the semi-finals of the contest. In a few months, I will be notified if I have won or not. Cool, huh?
