How Ants Got So Small
Long ago, ants were huge, strong warriors with weapons.
They were usually two heads taller than Indian warriors. They terrorized Creek villagers and stole their food and weapons. Over and over again they raided the tribes homes. The Native Americans became frustrated.
Finally, a Creek chief had had enough. He sought help from the Sun Spirit. “Oh, mighty Sun Spirit, we seek your help. The evil ants are destroying are villages. Please give them the punishment they deserve.
“Very well” the Sun Spirit replied. “Those ants will pay for their deeds.
The Sun Spirit fired off into the sky in search of the evil ants. Pretty soon, he found the ant warriors, about to attack another village. The great Sun Spirit went into action. He sent a rain of fireballs down on the huge ants, who howled in pain as they burned and withered down to a minute size.
The great Sun Spirit said “As for your punishment, you will remain in this very small form forever.” The ants were shocked at their new size that they fled into the woods, and never dared to attack another village again. That is why today ants are very small.
