Before you put any make-up on your child at a pageant you should try it out at home. Practice modeling? Practice make-up...also hair do's. It is especially important to do this with the younger children, to get them used to putting it on. It takes getting used to being still and especially putting on mascara. Send me your tips/advice....

#1. Use waterproof mascara. It won't run( in case they cry), smudge or diminish after a couple of hours of performing. Also... seperate eyelashes. Adds fullness

#2. At the pageant: see what the other contestants look like... you don't want to be overdone...compared to everyone else...or under done either for that matter.

#3.Eyeliner: to be or not to be? This is a personal issue. Some mothers wouldn't dare put it on their children, while others gob it on...and I have seen a few who have. If I were judging... I would vote highest for the one that looks like she has a natural beauty. I have put a small amount of blue eyeliner on the outer corner of my childrens eye's to define their eyes. I have also used charcoal. Both do well for my kids. You need to try it on your kids with bright lights. I have seen children with full eyeliner, lining the whole eye. I personally do not like the full liner.

#4. As far as eyeshadow...Earthtone colors look best on my children... browns, taupe with a touch of light pink. You will have to decide what is best for your child. Place the middle tone on the whole eye, and the darkest tone on the outside corner in the crease. BLEND.

#5. Lipstick....try different colors for each outfit....you must wear the outfit/dress while trying the lipstick/make-up to get a true representation. Remember that stage lights often change the color of lipstick, even dresses, so be watchful when you do compete to see if you like the color. As far as liner is concerned...it depends on the age of the child and how it looks on her. Just make sure that you dont see the liner above the lipstick. I can't stand to see a child with liner on that is way darker than the lipstick.

#6. Put a dab of gold frost shadow in the corner of your eyelid closest to the nose to make eyes look bigger. If you use an eyelash curler, do it before you put mascara on because it may stick to curler and pull eyelashes out. Apply blush from temple to cheek. This keeps the color in the place you need it most: contour of cheek instead of apple...Color on apple of the cheek makes you look chubby. Also, apply powder between base and blush/eyeshadow. Makes it go on smoother.(credit: Greta Noe of Louisiana)
